Window wiper fluid
during the spring/summer/fall i use whatever is on sale. in the winter i use the one with the de-icer in it (can't recall who makes it, but it's in a yellow bottle).
as long as it doesn't leave spots on the car it works for me.

If you don't live in a cold weather climate, you can use almost anything. Yor local auto parts store will sell the blue stuff for something like $1.50 per gallon, so it's hard to beat on price, which is the reason I'd recommend it over just water. Water will work fine, but it won't clean anything. If you live somewhere cold, especially in the winter months you want to make sure you get something rated for whatever temperatures you'll be encountering. If you live somewhere wet (like I do), you can get Rain-X wiper fluid. I'm trying to run mine out so I can use Rain-X instead of the blue stuff, but the dealer just refilled it with god knows what when I took the car in for an oil change. I'm not sure of the price on the Rain-X, but you can get it in several different varieties - some to get rid of bugs, some for cold temperatures, etc.
Rain-X De-Icer Windshield Washer Fluid year round. Rain just beads up. Bugs do not stick so well.
The windshield washer fluid tank in the xA holds over a gallon of fluid. Takes a long time to use up. Do not want to mix types so I use the orange Rain-X winter fluid only.

i found the stuff at walmart for like $0.89 or 0.99 protects down to -25 deg F.. I have been using that the little extra alcohol in it helps remove bug guts better
yeah I'd stay away from that red/orange stuff too.. the stuff I have is the blue stuff.. I tried the -20 F deg stuff and it didn't clean the windshield as good as the -25 deg F.. it's because of the alcohol content..hope that helps ya..

Eh... I'm not going to pay that much for something that just seems to clean better. Plus I hate premixing things. I'd rather end up paying more and not have to mix it. But to each his own.
