Worth repainting scratches?
Hello,
I was wondering, if your car has scratches. Is it a good idea to have that portion of the car repainted?
There are those who recommend not to do so because the paint would never match the paint...
BUT, what if the car was brand new, no more than a few days and it's being repainted by the dealership... And they guarantee a lifetime warranty that all of the paint would match.
Please advise, it'll help everyone out.
THANKS

well depends if the scratches are only in the clearcoat or if they are through the paint.. that is the big question..
if they are only in the clearcoat, they can be taken out with Meguair's Scratch-X.. or if worse, using a professional rubbing compound.. if that doesn't work, then professional wet sanding is going to be needed..
if it's through the paint, then of course repainted by a body shop..
a lifetime warranty? get it in writing from the body shop that did the work..

Ditto what Mich said. Consumer brand Meguiar's ScratchX should work fine if it's a clear coat scratch. If not, it's time to use a more abrasive professional product along with a machine polisher.
If the scratch is into the actual paint (and not the clear coat) the only way to fix it would be to repaint it.
Matching shouldn't be a problem because modern body shops do something called "paint blending" when they blend the new paint into the old paint on the adjacent panels and areas to make it match.
I'd get a second opinion on this scratch before you take it in to be repainted. You may just be wasting money if it's something a store bought scratch remover can fix.

Yeah... I wont find out until 5-7 freaking weeks from now... I got into an accident that's why I'm getting it repainted. Insurance is covering it anyways... Suspension was torn up and luckily no dents to my car.
PS. The car was three days old when I got into the accident...
Thanks

Count yourself lucky if you just have deep scratches.
Three days after I got mine, someone hit an ran my drivers side door so hard it required a new door.
...and just a few weeks ago someone sideswiped me, my car's still in the shop.
