xB DIY Oil Change???
anyone made a DIY for an oil change on a xB? I know there is one for a tC. Reason im asking is i wanna start doing my own oil changes. I will be going to switching to synthetic on my next oil change so i dont have to pay the $17 of labor my dealer is going to charge me to do it for me. I will either be going to Royal Purple, or Mobil 1. Also the parts guy said i didnt need a high performance oil filter & that the Toyora filter will work just fine. Anybody know if thats true?
One more thing, I saw in a couple of posts that people are changin their oil in their manual transmissions. What kind of oil are you all using, what are the pros for doing that and if anyone had a DIY for that.
Thanks!

The 1.5L is extremely easy to do an oil change on, the drain plug and filter are easily accessible.
The Toyota stock oil filter is quite nice, even for being the size of half of a soda can! $5.50 or so at the dealer.
I use Mobil 1 synthetic. You'll need 3.7 qts of 5W-30. I bought a 6qt case at Sam's Club for $27! That works out to about $23 for an DIY oil change. Sadly with rising oil costs, you'd only save about $6 if you stuck with dino oil. Royal Purple isn't worth the money in our engines (not that it's all that special anyway, I've heard it's simply Mobil 1 with a little dye added).
If you haven't done an oil change before, I suggest buying the filter and taking it into a parts store for a filter wrench. It's small size makes it tricky to "guess" which one will work. A wrench is nearly mandatory on these engines, as there's not a whole lot of room to get a good grip on it with hands alone.

The part number for the Toyota filter is 90915-YZZF1. 90915-YZZF2 will also work, but the first one is preferable.
I use Mobil1 as well. 4 Quarts fills it up perfecly... not over.

I've changed my oil 3 times and never filled up the filter with oil before. I just empty out my oil container in a milk jug and drop it off at an auto store, they're required by law to take it off your hands.

Oil travels directly from the pump to the filter then to the engine for lubrication. It then gravity feeds to the oil pan. If the filter is full of clean oil the engine will begin getting lubrication quicker than if the filter is empty. However, if you have run the engine to get the oil warm and then do your oil change, there is enough oil film on the internal parts to keep from doing any great damage for the 5 seconds or so it takes to fill the filter. If you can put some oil in the filter it is a good thing. Some engines have the filter horoziontal and filling it just will not work. Also the use of a synthetic helps keep a better film on the internals.

yea its to easy you cant miss up,ive been doin the oil changes on all my cars that i had. it takes me about i say 30-40 minutes. i let all the oil run out of the oil pan until it starts dripping really slow. and that is a good idea to put oil in your oil filter b4 installing it. what i do i let it all run out then i put the plug back on wait for bit then i take the plug off again and more oil will run out. yea be very carefull on taking your car to get it changed some where else my friend use to do that and they changed the oil but didnt change the oil filter idiots gosh. have fun oh yea be ready to have a towel wit you if your gonna change the oil right after you drove some where.

1 more question. I used a Mobil 1 Extended Performance oil filter, I assume this filter is good for 15k miles just like the Extended Performance oil, is this correct or is the filter only good for like 7,500 miles?
