no, i don't feel a drop. but i remember when i switched over to it after my first 3 free oil changes. then started putting mobil 1 in. started pulling out and was like "wow, where did that come from?"
i switched for superior protection for the engine to promote longevity, but was surprised that it actually got peppier. i'm told that you can get like 5 hp by switching to royal purple because of how much it reduces friction loss though.

I've used Castrol Syntec in all my cars since '91, and don't plan on using anything else.

i'm running royal purple in my '07. i put it in after the first 2000 miles. (royal purple strongly suggests this to allow new valves and pistons seat properly).

i have to admit 1) i could hear a difference - idle was quiter, and 2) i felt a slight bump in accleration. i also have plans to swap out the tranny fluid with their synthetic version. pricey? yea. but i don't buy new cars very often and i need this one to last and last.

jusmy2cents.

I use Castrol Syntec as of today. It was my first oil change after te 3 free ones from the dealer. I defiantly notice a smoother idle and a little more get up. How much did you guys pay for that Royal Purple per quart?

I must say, I don't think you'd even feel a 5hp bump, and if anything, it's probably more like 2hp if that. Anyhow, I use AMSoil, which my research leads me to think is the best. But, always looking for the best deal, I used Mobil 1 one oil change. Sams Club has it... And my next 3 oil changes are going to be Royal Purple, thanks to this thread, I found a deal I didn't want to turn down. Here you go...

Oh, just another question... Are you guys using special high flow, more efficient and long lasting filters to go with the oil? I'm assuming this falls in line with the thread topic... AMSoil was nice, because I owuld buy their filter with the oil, but now I don't know where to get a good one. Great oil doesn't help if it can't be filtered to that extent

ok, question.
my 1st oil chg, 4,500mi i switched to mobile 1 synthetic.

now its time for my 2nd oil chg. im at 9k.

questions.

1. is it ok to switch to royal purple?
2. wat is the exact bottle of royal purple that u use, picture?
3. can the r/p be used with the toyota oil filter?
4. wat size, 5w20 or 5w30?
5. and do you chg out r/p every 5k miles, or 3k

if u can answer these questions, thanx.

1. yes
2. check out my ebay link above... left quart
3. yes, but see 5
4. I use 5w30, and think it is recommended for the 05-06's I think the '07 manual says 5w20, but really, it shouldn't matter
5. With synthetic (and this is debatable) you should be able to go longer. I usually go about 8000 miles. It is important that not only the oil can last this long, but the filter as well. Toyota recommends 5k mile oil changes. If using a plain Toyota filter, I suggest sticking to that schedule.

ie.) AMSoil, I think is the only oil manufacturer that actually guarantees their oil to the 12K mile mark. (I'm pretty sure that that is the mark). But you must also use their filter...

Pennzoil platnium Syn 5w30 for me. $1.99/quart and better wear numbers with a UOA when compared to M1.

With all the crap Mobil has pulled, I will never buy any Exxon/Mobil products again.

Pennzoil Platinum 5w-20. Scored a good amount of it at AAP under their BOGO sale.

Thinking about switching to 5w-30 in the summer, keeping the 5w-20 for winter months.

Royal Purple. with a K&N oil filter.

most expensive oil change for a scion ever!

worth it? hell yeah! car idles quieter, drives better, and accelerates a tad bit quicker.

i worked with BMW's for a long time and saw what happends with a synthetic oil change. if a straight 6 can go 15K miles on its FIRST oil change, ill go ten with what i got. im not worried.

i think next time though ill have to buy a case. i had to wait 2 days for my oil
and that will be expensive too

Same here. But I would say that price is a combination of a store coupon followed by a mail-in rebate, and might not last forever.
Pep Boys has Platinum at almost $6/quart, but every month or so they run an ad with a discount coupon, then with the sale you get a rebate form, and after all that the price is $2/quart. Limited to one case per promotion cycle. I have accumulated four cases since July.
