Zero Weight Oil... 0w30
I know this should probably be in 'Drivetrain & Power' but I wanted to try and get it answered in a reasonable amount of time...
Plus, it's for my girlfriends Toyota Camry. She has a new 07 and I need to change the oil soon and I was reading thru the manual and it states it needs zero weight oil. I've never seen zero weight anywhere.
I've been to two local Advanced Auto's where I normally buy my oil and filters and they never stock it.
Anyone have any suggestions and think it'd be safe to use 5w30 Mobil 1? It's only the 4 banger LE, no v6 action...
Any comments are much appreciated!

Being in PA, you are neither extremely hot not extremely cold. I thought for the new 07 camrys there were telling customers to use 5W-20, and in the winter time, an optional 0W-20. In any case, I can appreciate wanting a thicker oil to aid in high temperature driving (especially being that it is summer). If they are telling you to use 0W-30, fine, but thats fairly odd in my mind. Especially now in the summer since it's hot, I wouldn't think twice about using 5W-30. When the winter comes around, you can rethink that, but you'll be fine in either situation. I'd personally use 5W-30 in the summer and 5W-20 in the winter. Neither you nor I live in AK or Canada where there are such extreme colds. The 0W isn't necessary IMO.
Does it really say 0w30 or 5w30 OR 0w30?
Actually, just check the oil cap on the engine cover. Should give you the answer you need!
Otherwise, you'll have to look around... 0w oil isn't too popular simply because most people don't really need it, especially now that it is the summer.
And that's weird that its w30, too. We have the same engine so I'd figure it must be either 0w20 or 5w20 like with 07 tC's.

I know the feeling about that 0 wgt oil. I just picked up a used '05 Scion tC and wanted to change the oil to be safe. I thought the owner's manual had a mis-print when I saw 0w-20 wgt oil.
I concur that unless you live in a deep freeze, the oil weight that's listed on the oil filler cap should be your best bet.
If you are still looking for a multiweight oil with 0 weight, you might try your local Wal-Mart. I was recently at my local one and just happened to notice that one of the major oil makers had a 0w-20 (or 30) wgt oil on their shelf. Unfortunately, I can't remember the exact maker because I was really looking for something else at the time.
It seems that the guys that are using Mobil 1 swear by it. I haven't tried it yet in any of my cars. I haven't gotten past the price of it. Plus, how long can you really run on it before you need to change it. And, I've heard that once you go full synthetic, you shouldn't go back to conventional oil.
I'm not talking Mobil 1 down, because I am very tempted to try it, but would like some more solid info on it before making the price leap to get it.

Roger that Jay!
I forgot to mention that the owner's manual I was referring to was for an '07. and, like you said an '05 tC shows 5w-30 weight oil in the manual & on the oil filler cap.
My used '05 tC didn't have the owner's manual with it, & I was borrowing an '07 manual until I could get a new manual specifically for my '05. Time changes everything!
