Default = KING KONG =

I am so seeing that movie this coming wednesday and plus since it's my last day of final, I can focus all my heart into it. Knowing that it's a Peter Jackson's, it shouldn't suck like some other remakes. What do you guys think? Pls also try to make this the only thread about king kong.

how many times can you remake King Kong. IMO don't waste your money. go to Kazaa and download that movie if you really want to see it. That way if it gets dumb you can just hit the little 'X' in the upper right hand corner of your computer screen...my .02

I was dragged to see this on Sunday and much to my surprise, thought it was tremendous. I'm not a big fan of the original Kong, or of Peter Jackson (I think the LOTR trilogy was 'so-so') but he nailed this one.

He stayed very faithful to the original, but gave Kong and the rest of the characters a deep humanity. One thing I will say about Jackson, is that he has the ability to give even secondary characters the fleshing out to make you really care (there were multiple points where grown men throughout the theater were fighting tears). The only complaint I have is there could have been a bit off celluloid chopped from the films girth, but it is KONG after all so I guess everything has to be on a larger scale. ;) The film did have many things and themes set up in the beginning that were very well paid off throughout the film, and in retrospect nothing was wasted.

The movie was very well cast, very well acted (Jack Black does a great Job with the obsessive filmmaker turn sleazeball), and it's one of the best photographed films this year. Skull Island was thrill-a-minute and 1930's New York was breathtaking. Just WAIT till you see the classic Empire State building fight... the rich color, the cinemaphotography, and the human drama will take your breath away. I could watch that scene and the Skull island stuff a hundred times and probably still not catch everything.

for those that care, the sound mix was also very well done.

Id say go check it out if you havent. You certainly wont get the same effect at home on DVD that you get in a good theater. It is a very fun movie with a lot of heart.

BTW, just for the record-there is no way you can get that incredible sense of scale or thrill when watching it "with the little X on the corner of the screen" Some things are worth 10 bucks. Being transported to a fantastic new world for a few hours is one of them.

I agree I thought it was a good movie too. I'm still not thrilled about having to sit for 3 hours to watch a movie, and I do feel the first hour could have been more interesting but after they got to the island there was non stop action. Alot of emotion and fighting in this movie. Something for everyone really. The graphics were great too......I didn't pay $10 though, only $6.50 and it was worth it.

i liked the king kong that came out in the 80s better than this 1. 1 highlight from that 1 was there is nothing like seeing a lamborgini get stepped on buy a 30ft silverback. lol
new kong is 12-15 ft. BOOOOO!! he cant fight godzilla being that short.

I'll be going against your better judgement SciFly by going to peep this flick this coming weekend. I have enjoyed every Peter Jackson effort save one...Meet the Feebles...absolutely horrible! Kong is going to kick my ___, and I'm going to like it.

I saw part of it the other day (had gone to see another film)

BUT damn, what i did see was entertaining. In your face and
really bold.

I saw the entry to the island and the massacre by the cannibal-types was all. Some stupid lines were heard
"oh cant you see this place has been abandoned for centuries" (even though all those wooden poles were piking dead fish and decaying bodies of humans shedding flesh, in a tropical climate!

I paraphrase that line but that was the only real stupid writing I noted. The visuals are super!

I will go see the whole film. I like long movies if they move like this one was rolling along.

fun. early 'review' retracted. Get your money back from darren S and go see KONG

ha.

I took that line as a way of further exposing Jack Black's character as the PT Barnum type showboating in front of everyone he dragged out there, and making grand statements about something he has no clue about. A bit of foreshadowing of the film to come. However, I can see where that would seem odd out of context.

good point right above. It sure looked like he was blustering with perfect hubris.

the Hershey bar wrapper was a nice authentic touch.

Ya know what killed "Titanic" for me, other than all the over-the-top melodrama? It was the failure to pay attention to little details: The interior, belowdecks of the ship when Jack and the wet love interest were floundering along the passageways- all the light bulbs were like today's bulbs: tipless. Tipless bulbs did not exist prior to about 1924, when the light bulb makers adopted the bottom seal process used to this day. An old, tipped household-type bulb may post date 1924, but it cannot predate that year by much.

Also- all that seawater in the passageways was clear and lit up from below. And it was not steaming off water vapor as freezing water would in a warmer place like inside the ship.

Well, I really mean only this: the Hershey bar wrapper was nicely done and apparently authentic.

And the point made right above this post holds water well. Well done.

I didn't even notice that lighbulb detail, but I was wondering why the water looked like it was from Wet and Wild...This is about Kong, so I'll shut it. I'm going to see it Saturday hopefully, and maybe Munich.
