I'm looking into buying a used certified preowned car.. I want either a bmw m3 or corvette base.. Its a hard decision for me cause i think the corvette is downright sexy and from reviews corvettes have exceptional reliability considering its an american car..

however bmw are bmws.. i love bmws.. my dad has a m3 and its an "ultimate experience" i just don't want to pay for german maintenance costs.. i have no points on my insurance which would be more expensive to insure? i'm only 22

any preference or suggestions?

if not those two. g35 coupe or 328i coupe brand new?

your 22, Id say buy an 06 325i and save for a house. I'm 24 and am Glad I bought the TC in cash and can save money for a house.

Cars are awesome! but cost a lot of money and are a poor investment, Stick with the TC or buy a base model bmw and save for a house.

don't do 328i coupe new. honestly my best recommendation with a bmw is to lease, yeah i know its bad blah blah blah

but look at it this way


lease it, 3 years, get tire and rim warranty because you never know when you'll get a nail or bent wheel. you basically don't have to worry about ****

yeah you dont want the M3 matence. valve adjustment every 30K and it gets expensive. the C5 is a good buy and if well taken care of it will hold its value. keep up on leaks after the mileage gets up there. ive seen tranny leaks and rear main leaks on them. both minor but nothing to turn away from.

plus its a Corvette. a true American sports car. it has a V8. and honestly even the C6 gets as good mileage as my little xB does. the C5 gets decent mileage too i think.

but if you want a "practical" corvette, look for teh Pontiac G8 GXP, 6 speed LS7. and dealers cant sell them so they'll knock it down a few bucks to move them off the lot.

whats your range in price? i can suggest anything :-P i use to work at a BMW dealer as a tech. and used cars are fun to work on too :-P

i like the e46 m3's, but they are expensive, to own, mod, maintain etc...but they are damn nice machines...

but corvettes are great too. great looks performance, much cheaper to mod and maintain (although still expensive, check prices on what a set of tires run you) and simple, you can fix'em with a hammer. get a vette!

awesome preferences from you guys.. i'm looking into the corvette most likely.. my parents are BMW loyalists lol.. my mom has a x5 and my dad has a m3.. they love the way they drive but maintenance is a killer...

I'm most likely going to do the C6 just get an exhaust and umm that's about it lol.. i'm just worried about american reliability..

i'm only 22 so i'll probably get more of luxury when i get into my 30s.. i love g35s but their so played out.. i know lots ofpeople who have em.. besides i feel like im driving an upgraded nissan or toyota whenever i drive lexuses or infinitis..

my price range is 25,000-35,000 with less than 50,000 miles

In all honesty, "american reliability" is just fine. Occasionally, everyone gets a bad batch (look at new WRX / STi going nuclear) but on the whole, americans are average.

What turns people off to american cars is the use of supercheap materials, and the overall fit/finish isn't great.


Expensive for a 22 year old on a corvette insurance, but cheap to maintain, fast, and gets STUPID power for every little mod.

 

Corvette. Dollar for dollar, it's much more car than the M3.

Neither. I just bought a CTS-V and couldn't be happier. You should check em out. 400 hp bone stock. And the insurance is very reasonable. I pay like 85 a month.

 

Too big, too heavy for my tastes.

In terms of 300hp+, RWD coupes, the reasonable options are...

M3
Corvette
350 / 370Z
Hyundai Genesis coupe V6
BMW 135i
"Muscle car" variants


And really, that's about it.

Throw in the AWD's, and you can add Evo / STi.

 

i think with any of those cars, your insurance is gonna' be high since you're looking at luxury/performance cars. i'd go with the g35 or the 3 series coupe.

 

I looked at G35's before I bought my V. They are nice, but I wanted more performance.
They are nice cars though, and even the newer ones can be had for dirt cheap.
I like the M3 the most out of your choices though. Followed by the Corvette.
And I don't think insurance will be as high as you think, unless you get the vette(cause of fiberglass), or the Evo or STI. Mainly because they are bought by wanna-be boy racers.

 

to the op.... if you're looking at a c6 base - then why not look at a few year old viper? you can get a few year old srt10 vert for the same or less than a new c6 base.....

*shrug* just my .02.

-oh. when i was shopping around, insurance for me is cheaper on a viper than on the tc.....
