3 way vs 2 way speakers?
I have had both 2 and 3 way speakers. The box and the seller will tell you alot of stuff, but when you crank up the volume, there isn't too much difference in pure sound. The only thing I have found is that the sound is more directed with a 3 way vs 2 way.
I could be wrong, but I am pretty good with stereos and I love my sound... but that's just what I have noticed.

2-way equals mid and tweeter.
The woofer on the 3 way is really a joke. it provides some low range, but nothing at all significant. the 2 ways are great for saving space, but they still don't compare to the sound of completely seperate components.
I would never consider a 3-way, except for maybe, possibly something to put in my mom's car. A solid 2-way is always a consideration tho, unless I was wanting to compete in sound off competitions.
all 3 ways add a small mid or an additional tiny high. and all two ways are woofer and then tweeter whether it be larger and like a mid or small and just a tweeter.
Just replacing the tweeters may help your highs sound better, but it won't make it sound any fuller. IMO, the fullness and the clarity is what matters. With new tweeters you will be likely to just drown yourself in treble.
If you're trying to build a system piece meal, wait until you can buy the mids/highs together with an amp to drive them. Then while you're saving for the low end set up, you'll have nice sound while driving around. Of course it'll be missing something....
