I got pulled over today, no big deal. I wasn't sure what I was stopped for so I asked the cop and he replied "you know" and I repiled "no sir, I don't" (I thought it was cuz my taillights are blacked out) and he "you don't think you were going a tad over the speed limit" I said "I'm not sure, was I... how fast was I going" he "fast fast do you think" me "the same as evryone" him "good answer" me "how fast" he then took my stuff went back to the car came back and said "I'm only going to put 10mph over the speed limit" I said "ok but how fast was I going" he said "you know" I said "no sir I really don't" and he "should I give you a ticket for a broken speedometer" I "no, cuz it's not broke" him "then you know how fast" me "did you clock me" him "here's your stuff the info is here and sign here" me "thanks, did you clock me" me again "sir, did you clock me" him "yes" me "how fast was I going" him "you know" me "can I see the clock" he starts to walk way... me again "can I see the clock" and then he gets in his car and leaves.

I'm not sure if I was speeding or not. I could have been going over the speed limit and I don't have a problem paying the ticket if I did something but this guy was an ___ and wouldn't answer me. Aren't they supposed to tell you how fast you were going? Aren't they supposed to show you the clock if you ask them? I can really say I think I was stopped cuz of my car.

Any thoughts on what I should do? Do I have a chance at fighting it and winning? Any tips on how to win it? This is only my seconed ticket and I'm almost 27 so it's not like I go flying down the street everyday. I think if the cop was a little nicer I wouldn't even have thought about fighting it but this guy is what makes people hate cops.

 

man, what a rude cop. by reading your story, i was paranoid. it's probably an excuse to pull you over or something like that. you should go to court and tell them exactly what you told us. he should've told you how fast you were going. he kept on avoiding all your questions and giving you lame ___ answers.

and he tries to be a smart ___ and jokes around by saying "do you want me to give you a ticket for a broken speedometer?" what the hell is that?

 

Take it to court and tell the judge that he never showed you the rader stuff and say that he NEVER said why he pulled you over. Good luck. If you wanna take it to the extreme, ask for the cops video tape from his squad car, but im not sure they will let you see that. well anyway good luck.

 

I would go to court on this one. If he didn't want to answer your questions, he probably won't want to answer questions from a Judge. If it's the same in Florida as it is in Washington State, if the officer doesn't show up, the ticket is immediately dropped. I say fight it. He couldn't even tell you how fast he thought you were going, "you know"???

 

Funny, here in the Republic of California, you don't need a working speedo. Your supposed to know how fast/slow your going by experience.

Take it to court, you did try and ask how fast you were going, just in case yours is broken and he could have told you so you know how far off it was.

 

it should say on the ticket with his had writing the posted speed limit and the speed you were going to break it. i got a speeding ticket once going 14 over a 35 thru construction at night on a sunday and the cop that got me was all ____s and giggles cause he straight up told me "damn if this was tomorrow afternoon you woulda been ____ed!" inded i would of been.

 

fight it.... If he didn't show you the radar, then how can he write you a ticket for speeding.... Tell the judge what you told us, and if you have to, type it up and READ it to the judge.

 

samething happen to me , basically he said I was going 86 in a 65mph zone , but thats the speed he went to catch up .. I told him that I wasn't going that speed and he got ____ed .. gave me the same line only going to put 80mph blah blah...

he got me for no front lic. plate and tint didn't even looked at my tints ..

 

hmmm you were speeding yes, you know it he knows it , but he never clocked you , he puleld you for other reasons and since everyone was speeding knew he could get you on that rather than nothing.

 

well in california when they pull you over they are required to tell you why, not play guessing games...... also they have to tell you how they caught you, paced you, or radar, and if they used radar they have to show it to you if you ask, but they also have to write it on the ticket how and why they stopped you.......
and hotbox is right, he probably pulled you over for other reasons and realized that it was poor stop, so he made up the speeding thing, take it to court.......never argue with the cop its not worth it.

 

also a new thing that is perfectly legal, when you get stopped you can actually record the conversation, and there is nothing the cop can do, you have to tell him.........or just pull out a recorder and turn it on, place it on the dash.......then you dont have to tell him, but it is legal and it protects your rights.

try it, it works......it is intresting how nice the officer becomes.

and FYI, half the time they are recording you too now.

 

I believe it is a requirement that the officer disclose the speed you were traveling, and upon request disclose how that was obtained. If he says radar, you are entitled to see the calibration books upn request, though they do not by law have to show you the actual radar device as suggested above (i know that's true in california and most other states.)

 

take him to court, had this happen to me.
postpone if you can the first date, usually helps.
but the cop was just being a dueche, if he had an exact speed it woulda been on the ticket and he woulda told ya.

but at the same time, i got a ticket and wasn't clocked i know for sure, but the cop wrote on the ticket (in their secret cop code) that he used LASER to get me, but he def. didn't, so i went to court and luckily he didn't show up

but if i was you, id go and get this settled
just because hes a giant deuche
