Anyone Build R/C Cars?
so growing up my friends always had R/C cars and lately ive been interested in getting one but i dont really know naything about them or how to build them so ive been looking on this site and found this http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXXLB2 and i have some questions about it so if anyone knows anything about RC cars lemme know
dude - you have to get the traxxas JATO 3.3 nitro powered, very fast and a good choice for someone who has USED a rc car before (not a pro, just someone who understands the controls) I have one, and it does 70mph out of the box (or it may be 65). It will smoke the tires and is awesome on road, and pretty good off road.
The car your looking at wont go offroad, TRUST ME - you want offroad, it provides way more fun. Jumps, rock climbs, obstacles.. ect.. on road, is OK. But you can use my jato on road, and it has street tires (no nubs, HORRIBLE offroad) and it has a full suspension, ie : dampers, shocks, even front and rear sways. You want offroad, just swap the tires for dirt track tires!
FYI HPI is a good company. I am sure that thing is fun to drive (the bmw). Also look at TRAXXAS, TAMAIYA and LOSI. All make good "RTR's"
ALWAYS look for "RTR" cars, or ready to run, if your new to the sport. Just add batteries + nitro fuel and your good to go.
PM me or ask here any more questions about the hobby!
Here is what I have : But I have a bunch of mods lol

Traxxas makes the best rC cars for Bashing, but not if you want to be competitive.
I would def recomend NOT getting an on-road car. You'll like it for about 3-4 hours and then you'll get bored driving around in circles on your driveway or in a parking lot or anywhere that there aren't ANY bumps/cracks.
Get an off-road rc and you'll never get board because you can drive on the street and then when that get's boring, you jump off the curb and get dirty. There's no where you can't go.
You want good fun, get a Traxxas Revo 3.3. You'll never get bored. The suspension travel is better then anything out there(takes after an F-1 car).

Dude, you want nitro! It'll annoy your neighbors but so does an aftermarket exhaust system
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w_EppIvgawMand no, that's not VVT-i you hear, that's a two-speed tranny lol.
And so it doesn't start an electric vs nitro argument I have several electric and nitro kits and each have their pros and cons. I recommend you start off with a kit, it's very rewarding and you'll get a feel for suspension and transmission design. Once you have the hang of it, maintenance & repair of any ready-to-run that lands in your posession will will be a cakewalk.
Some recommended faves :
Traxxas : simply the best when it comes to ready-to-run gas-n-go fun. the Revo 3.3 is their flagship and if you need something a little (though just slightly) simpler, a T-MAXX is also worth your while. If you'd rather have electric These platforms are available with brushless motors too. If you're interested in a sure-footed short course race-platorm, the electric Slash 4x4 is a winner, and if you choose nitro, the revo-based Slayer has also made its mark. Also, every hobby shop you walk into that sells RC cars have Traxxas parts up the wazoo so if you manage to wreck, you can have your car running in no time for less than 20 bucks.
HPI - manufacturer both electric and nitro cars and trucks, most available in both kit and RTR form. Their Savage line is on par with the T-MAXX and arguably bulletproof. Their onroad options are even wider. If you browse their section on Tower hobbies you'll see they have a ton of on-road options, they even have a large selection of aftermarket shells resembling many legendary imports (can be used to cover any platform though)
Edit : HPI also offers some licensed stuff http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...p?&I=LXSCG8&P=

yah dude.. Nitro is the way to go, and Offroad is also. You will get bored quick of being limited to only the pavement.
Also, if you have NO experience, again I really would push you to get a RTR and not build it yourself. Get the FUN out of it now. Then, in the off season (winter) go buy a project one to work on it. You need to get all the other accesories anyways, so why not get a RTR and be done with it?

I built an HPI RS4 Rally way back in the day. They're discontinued now, I think I built one of the last ones. Anyway, it was a 'Rally' cause it was for on road and off. I mostly used it on, but what was awesome about it was it had two bodies. A normal one that looked like a car (it came with a Lancer Evo body, I switched to a Saleen Mustang) AND an underbody that covered all the electronics etc but not the wheels or suspension. Pretty sweet:

If you can find one - I'd recommend it for sure. Not too hard to build, but a fun project, and it works on and off road really well.

Yea I loved the thing. Just found it again actually, I think I'm gonna get new electronics for it. I was trying to find a whole new kit so I could build one again but it's been discontinued for way too long. Too bad, nobody makes 'rally' rc cars anymore. It was great to be able to take it off road but still have the looks of a normal car instead of one of those dumb looking trucks or buggys or whatever.
I had a 4-tec that I did an rallye conversion on. it was great being able to beat the trucks on thier own course but I always lost when it came to the jumps. It's not easy to get the car to land with the tires being level. I usually had the front end dig in and it would bring me to a stop.
Alex, HPI is a great company, if your going kit go HPI, Tamiya, or Kyosho, from what I've read Tamiya has the best on road cars, I don't know where your located but if your up north (northern us) theres a good chance that theres an on road track near you, nitro is a blast, but if you want all out speed get brushless, and lipo powered, if your heart is dead set on on road get the on road, just know that as long as the wheel base is the same pretty much any body can fit any chassis (with on road) later on I'd suggest getting something meant for off road, if your staying electric look into a crawler probably its not fast but for scale their amazing
avoid Losi, since horrible(horizon) hobbies bought them out their quality has gone worse the hyundai/kia or ford, and CS outright stinks, your talking to english speaking people but you feel like your speaking to people that talk greek (their idiots who don't care)
I've been in the RC hobby since 1988 89, if you have a question ask me
