How long are you staying? Are you driving? SF is small, and you coan cover most everything in a day with a car...
No matter how hot and sunny it is outside, BRING A JACKET! It will get cold eventually. They make a killing at Pier 39 on sweaters. Oh, and Pier 39 and the surrounding areas are just a great big tourist trap. The Embarcadero is cool between the Ferry Building and the Ballpark. Great views of the Bay Bridge from there...and much better food.
For nice views of the GG bridge, I like to chill at Crissy Field/Presidio. It's got a beach, beautiful Marina people, and great views of the GG bridge. Not too big of a tourist spot.
Pacific Heights is also a cool way to see how the uber-rich live. Start at Broadway and Lyon for a view of the Marina and Palace of Fine Arts. Cruise around the neighborhood and check out some $10,000,000 homes. Then work your way to Broadway and Fillmore for the steepest hill in the city. Then walk down Fillmore to see more beautifl people and snooty shops.
There's also a bunch of cool neighborhoods to check out: *** Hill, Chinatown, North Beach, etc...
