Default Is Anyone More Stupid than Costco?

Ok so I needed tires for my XB and I have a different size tire than one they claim is standard. Their measuring stick is the sticker on the door jam that denotes standard tire size. They refuse to put any other tire on the car...with my fitment the size tire listed in the door jam would not allow my car to be drivable.....(lowered on coils)
So I asked them what if I came to you with my 18's which were a Scion factory option but not listed on the door you would only put the the 15's on them? I want to see that stretch! The idiot I spoke to said we can only put the 185 65 15 listed on the door on the car...... even if I brought them the window sticker with 18's on it......
Long story short what a bunch of putz's... I bought my tires elsewhere at a better price too.....
end of rant

Just goes to show that you don't need a brain or common sense to work at Costco.

Sam's Club has done the same thing before. My mom's new husband tried to take his truck there with some 33s on it and he just wanted to buy the tires b/c he knew they wouldn't mount them - but the guy at the checkout insisted they would. He figured wth and went out back...

Nope. Not OEM size.

Though it was funny, the guy said if he brought the wheels back not on the vehicle, he could do them after hours. But they wouldn't do it and put them on the vehicle for liability reasons.

Well at least now we all know that the supposed Costco corporate policy is to do OEM tire replacements only. A question of liability for a huge corporation with deep $$ pockets, trying to avoid lawsuits, no doubt.

ScionD qualified his (her? ) posting as a "rant" so there's no need for name calling.

It's a liability issue. We, at the dealership, ONLY put on the correct tire size for the vehicle aswell. Now if it has aftermarket wheels, with a different size tire, we put whatever the aftermarket wheel has on them.

x3. Cheap prices, order online and as soon as you get there they install them, and best of all is the final torque applied by hand with a calibrated wrench... unlike the damn gorilla torque at pep boys.

One fix to this problem that I actually have seen work is to stick on a nice looking "optional tires" sticker printed up with one of the little Brother "P-Touch" tape printers.

Actually, if a dealer sells a car with optional wheels/tires that differ from stock size they are required by federal regulation (FMVSS 110) to put a new sticker on... See this article: http://www.trva.org/legupdates/cccplacard.pdf

I have a "new sticker" on my door frame, next to the factory one, that says

FMVSS 110 optional
tire size: 185/65R15

No one has ever challenged it.

(I made it myself...)

For those laughing, here's the home-made label...

Like I said, no one has ever challenged it on this or any other car I've added one to.
