Being a Girl in Male Dominant Work Environment
So I work in a 300,000+ warehouse. My job requires me to operate warehouse equipment like forklifts. We sell shipping supplies (foam, bubble wrap, shrink wrap, box tape, etc) but we also sell safety things (safety cones, anti-slip mats, etc.) HR usually posts this in each job description "Must lift to 75 lb when we have openings.
My department is in corporate transfers; working odd ball 2nd shift hours. Where we pick & pack items to our other warehouses in the US. I am the only female in the warehouse working with 14 other men.
Here’s the funny part, I’ve been working here for three years now. Out of 14 guys; only 4 have been there for least 3 or more years. I operate my forklift around this warehouse picking whole pallets for three hours and somehow I average 15-18 pallets a hour? So I get around 50+ pallets a night. Which is excellent to the company’s required 75 pallets per a night. These guys operate equipment with fear and too worried to be in accidents.
Those "anti-slip mats" can weigh to 100 lbs; these guys call on the radio for "two men lift" while I safely lift these very same mats and slide it across the pallet without any help. Two weeks ago, I lifted over 1,200 lbs ALONE in 10 minute period of pipe tying wire that is rolled up and they call for help! Just as long, I bend my knees or if I lifting something low I’ll stand on my knees and lift that way.
My boss doesn’t think I can lift which I like to laugh about. Because, I’m a somewhat a husky girl and I wear loose work shirts so you really don’t see how thick my arms are & I don’t hang around a gym. LOL I proudly admitted I like working in physical environment cause its a paid workout.
Its just funny to me: I have more ***** than the guys I work with.

Whoo whoo you go girl!!!
Can't say I'd be able to do that... I work in corporate, so it's a desk job for me. But when I worked at a custom truck company for my summer job right outta high school, I was definitely pretty muscular since the other girl I worked with was a stick figure (so I had to carry everything). I was like, perfectly toned!!!
So kudos. You show those men how we do!
