I have the urge to get a bike for a long time now. Ive never ridden before so i decided maybe i should get a new ninja 250. I know it has very low power but it seems to be a great starter bike for someone who never has ridden.

what do you guys think?

I bought a gs500 bike. I love it.

 

IMO a 600 is perfect for a beginner...that was my first..250 is like riding a John Deer..lol

Trust me, you can't go wrong with a 600...

 

the last 2 funerals I've been to were homeys who died on bikes.

One guy rode for Dallas Honda, so no one can say experience has jack crap to do with anything... when you faceplant into a light pole it's over no matter how good a rider you are and how much gear you have on.

If you've never ridden before don't bother buying a new bike.

1.) You may drop it.
2.) If you drop it you may have a harder time selling it for anything once you realize that buying such a wimpy bike was a mistake in the first place and now you want to move up to something bigger.

Buy something used (a 600 is nice, anything under is a waste and anything over you'll probably kill yourself on depending on your level of idiocy.... some people can handle starting out on bigger bikes, some can't) and once you're comfortable on it trade up to something bigger or newer or whatever your heart desires.

But before you buy anything PLEASE do plenty of research and then take an MFS course. Or maybe even two.

Hah! I thought you were thinking of buyin' 250 ninjas. I was like wtf?

but yeah, watch out on those things man. A close friend of my roomy almost died on one. Some idiot stopped abruptly in front of him and he flipped over the car. Broke his collarbone, lost vision in one eye, lost about 90% of the motor function in one arm, trashed his bike, and got charged with a DUI (without a breathalyzer) to boot. Cops tried to come into the ICU to arrest him. Talk about effin' scumbag cops...

 

My first bike was a Kawasaki EX500. Perfect starter bike. Very light yet still had some power. Definately get a used bike as your first. Your first bike will probably last you only a year or so before you start craving more power.

 

I'd stay away from the SuperSport 600's, but a tame 600 wouldn't be so bad (Suzuki SV650, Kaw Ninja 650r, Older CBR600F2/F3, etc..)... If you're wanting to get into competitive riding/trackdays, DEFINITELY get a 250 or 500 to start... on a track while pushing limits (be it yours or the bikes), a 250/500 ninja will be ALOT more forgiving than ANY regular supersport will be. One wrong move on a Supersport and you'll be eating pavement.... starting small will make it easier for you to learn competitive riding style..

don't forget to get some gear as well!!! good jacket, gloves, and helmet at the least...

 

250 is a good starter bike thats what i learned on. But sold it when summer was over sold it for a 636 cause they get slow like the first half hour ride it u want more power!!
