Check out my latest project! (Maybe no 56K)
Ive been wanting to build a rat rod for years now, and this June I got a phone call from a older friend of mine that has a shed full of old Fords. He needed to get one out (the one i wanted) to use the motor for a project he had. Long story short, it took about two weeks to dig this out of his shed.
It is EXACTLY what I wanted. It is a 1930 Ford Model A Tudor Sedan. I think it was originally Washington Blue but as you can see, kinda hard to tell now, lol. It has no motor, tranny, floor, interior, roof, paint, you name it. All I wanted was the rusty body. It had been sitting in a field for probly upwards of 30 years before my friend bought it and tucked it away in his shed. It accumulated 40+ bullet holes mostly in the rear end while in that field. I think they add great character. My plans are to build or buy a frame (most expensive part of the project), put either a Ford 351W or 390 in it, chop it of course, and lower it. ABSOLUTELY NO PAINT, some sort of leather interior. I definalty have my work cut out for me.
I will commense the build hopefully next summer, I have to brush up on my welding skills first. So, what do you guys think? Not too bad for $700.

Here is one of part of the shed I dug it out of. By the way, i am NOT kidding.

And finally, here it is in front of my house next to my beloved late xB. Interesting fact: There are almost exactly the same length and have almost exactly the same wieght (when new of course.)

Rat rods are traditionally kept rusty or painted in a primer-usually flat black or grey. Im a big fan of the rusty look and alot of people keep telling me to paint it flat black and fill in the bullet holes. I just hope the rust thats on it wont completly rot the car away.
Now I am not sure on prices for old cars like that, but by looking at the condition of that car, no motor, tranny, etc and in the shape it is in....$700 seems a little steep IMHO. But by any means, good luck on the project. I would like to do something like that someday, restore an old car and have a "toy" for the weekends. Good luck!
Do not fill in those holes!!! I see hot rods in shows and they put those bullet hole stickers on. Looks dumb.
I would blast it and flat black it. It looks great as is but it will only get worse. Though I'm surpised its still in tact being in wisconsin.
I say chop it, lower it, lose the fenders, throw on some steelies, put in a wood floor, bench seat, leave the top open, three speed, white walls......oh man I getting excited!! I really want to build one too! Just can't make it a priorty yet.
Keep us up to date. I realy want to see this come together.
