hey what would make my computer stop reading cd's?

i tried playing a cd today and it wouldnt even reconize that i loaded a computer. when i go into mycomputer to look up the drive it tells me to insert a cd. when i do this the promt never goes away and nothing shows up. i can hear the drive "spoolin" up and trying to read the cd but alas nothing. i also tried a few other cds thinking it was just the disc. nothing.

btw my computer is an HPdv9000 laptop.

i have one of those 3 year plans from best buy so ill probly just bring it in there. but i figured id ask some computer savvy people to see if im just retarded or something.

Bad laser most likely or probably a bad drive overall

umm you try a CD cleaner disk. might have dust on your laser.

also what would help is how old is you computer??
when was the last time you remember it working??

 

dirty laser, bad drive. im leaning more twards bad drive, if you get a replacement from best buy DONT LEAVE THE LAPTOP THERE!!!

 

it worked last week when i ripped a cd, i have a lense cleaner ill try that. if it doesnt work ill most likely let someone who knows how to work on these things fix it.

btw the computer is about 1 year old
