Ok so i need the OT's input on this one....well from those of you whom travel frequently.

When is it the best time/season to purchase airplane tickets? Im planning on going to Hawaii for a friends wedding in June (June 2nd through the 9th to be exact) and have been shopping around for a while for the cheapest deal.....heres the problem tho.
for the last week and a half....Priceline.com has had roundtrip flights for around $335ish round trip......till today .

I went to go purchase them today.....$424

WTF!?!?!? HOW DOES IT JUMP FROM 335 TO 424 IN 2 DAYS?!?!?!?

Am i screwed?
Should i just buy them now cause theyll never drop again?
Or should i wait it out and see?

EFF you Shatner!!!

might as well buy it now, the more and more u wait and the closer and closer the date comes it will start getting more expensive, i did the same ish i bought hotel room tickets 6/7 months ago for hershey park and paid 220 $ for 4 days 3 nites. not bad considering last year for halloween i paid 209 for 2 days but i bought them a couple of weeks before goin.

Ok, here's the deal. I worked for American Airlines for 2 1/2 years as a ticket and gate agent. During slow times, I just played with the system and planned out my OWN trips, planned trips for friends etc. 2 1/2 years may not seem like a long time, but when your job is 6-8 hours per day of checking people in, planning flights, booking, etc...you tend to know your stuff. :-)

For a popular flight like hawaii..book it as soon as possible.

Say a plane physicall has 300 seats in coach, they're all the same, they look the same, smell the same, etc...BUT the airline might only allot 10 or 15 of those 300 seats to a certain price range. This is how they book deals, bargains, say 'you can fly here for this low price', etc..so if you find a flight you like to a place like Hawaii...in the summer time, BOOK IT asap, as the flight might not be around for long.

With regards to cheaper seats over all..leave on a thursday or friday, and have a saturday night stay over.

Anyways, yeah..good luck I guess, hope this was somewhat informative. lol, you're prolly screwed with the current flight, so check other airlines, see what they offer, and if the best you can get is 400, book it and pay for it now, before the price doubles.

jeff

P.S. if the prices drop again, you can usually exchange for the new seats/new prices..just ask them about it, or read the FAQ'S if you book online.

oo AA person^.
k well i part-time at a travel agency so i'll just state whatever i know. you're not getting ripped off. It's the end of a season, and prices will jump up and down, either b/c of airlines' base fares and fuel surcharges. Airlines don't increase and decrease their prices gradually, rather they do it all at once several times a year. So, if it goes up, it won't be coming down for a while, and seeing as you want to travel during june when prices start to go up because summer vacation season's starting, i say just dish it out now before you have to pay more later.

I’ve also noticed that prices vary day by day. Try looking on a Wednesday, maybe cheaper than booking on a Friday or Monday. But yeah, like the others were saying, you should always bookas far in advance as possible to avoid this kind of thing. =o(

Thank you xdorkx, aroddalobster, and tc4me for all the info

The funny thing about all this, is that on sunday night i thought to myself "i better buy the ticket tomorrow cause i dont want to end up paying +600 bucks for it "....

One thing i did notice when i went to view the seating chart to find the open seats......there were alot...and i mean 95% of the seats in coach still available/open....if these seats dont fill up, would the airline(delta) lower the price again to try to sell off the remainder?
