Default Debate: What should we do to solve global warming?

I say, take a few more tons of powdered iron, seed the waters around antartica with it(naturally the water's anemic there, keeping the water devoid of life), and let the plankton blooms consume the atmosphere's CO2.

Sure it'll disrupt the ocean's food chain, but doing it slowly, instead of the proposed oil tanker full which supposedly can clean it up in just a few years would make for a super drastic change in the ecosystem.

anyone's thoughts/ideas?

Well the data behind it is still not conclusive (correlation =/= causation) that it was 100% our fault. (smog, yes, 100% our fault) Some of it can still be attributed to natural climate fluctuations. However, fixing it would be finding a good way to fix the CO2 without fuxxing up the current environment, which is damn near impossible. And just trying to seed plankton might not work either. The main protein that fixes CO2 for photosynthesis and such (Rubisco) is actually inhibited by high levels of CO2 in the atmosphere. (I believe. Either that or just the plants themselves have an inhibitory affect within them that slows the CO2 fixation when high levels of CO2 are in the atmosphere)

o plankton will work. it's already been done. this guy took 2,000lbs of powdered iron down there and watched the insane bloom happen. He said, give me a tanker full and we'll fix it all. But that he'd screw up sealife waaay to much doing so.

to put an end to global warming without spontaneously combusting, we need to only fart in modesty, or when it is really really funny.

Yeah, but that's on a fairly small scale (compared to the whole planet). If it is workable, though, major props. Could they maybe make like a manmade lake or something around Antarctica, isolated from the ocean, and seed the plankton in there with the iron? That way they wouldn't screw the environment unless the tank ruptured. Or even make a farm of tanks with plankton like a strange bio-processing plant?

Yea because this all started eight years ago. So if we go and find our selves another guy to be President global warming will stop.

Why not stop...... then learn to think for yourself.... and help the people in the world that know the past is the past find a relistic plan that the government cant say no to and then put that world effort into action?

Well, I say Global Warming is a pyramid scheme. When I go out to get the mail and a Polar bear is eating an apple on my front porch, I'll believe it.

But seriously though. All we need to do is each person try and be responsible. Walk to the store if you can, or ride a bike if you can. If everyone does that one day a week we'll be starting off pretty good right there.

The big problem is, most people get bothered with what all of humanity can do as opposed to what they themselves can do.

Short of going back to the dark ages for 50 years, there's nothing we can do. The best alternative is to start preparing for the effects now.

First we need to plug up all the volcanos so they don't spew any more greenhouse gasses, then we stop all the cows from farting, then we cut down all the trees in the nothern areas that are causing warming.........

Oh yeah, GW has to die.. he has his hurricane machine set to warming...

Not expecting to win any friends with this comment, but whatever.

What should we do to solve global warming?

Mass depopulation is the best solution.

If global warming was real, how did the Chicago area get snow in mid april. I don't believe it.

I agree with byerhone. I'll bring the aerosol cans.

Are you kidding? There is no longer even debate about if it is true or not.

goofy and extreme (on both sides) weather is a part of it. Keep in mind, there was only about 5 degrees different between now and the last ice age. 5 degrees, that's it.

keep this in mind New Years 2012 when it's 85 in Chicago.

The global warming camp will tell us straight faced that due to global warming, it will snow in April....

Who are we to decide if there is global warming? The earth goes thru warming and cooling cycles, man can not alter nature.
What will we do if we cave it to all the demands of the activists and ride bikes and everything else they want and it still gets warmer?
