Default DMV Employees.

Seriously, what the hell is up their asses?

It seems like no matter what DMV I go to, or even if I call them over the phone, they person who "tries" to assist me in my problem is always _____y as hell. They all seem to have a badddddddddddddddddddd attitude.

If you dont like where you work, then go to school, get a degree, and find a better job. Dont take it out on the civilians who come to the DMV.

crappy pay rates, usually lower education, and deal with crap all day long would make me in a bad mood too.

LOL... It's true. Sort of understandable though. It's not like they deal with the "best and brightest" all day. On top of that I'm sure that everyone is a jerk to them after having to wait in the DMV for 2 hours.

I wouldn't hold it against them for being _____y. Imagine having their jobs where all day nonstop they are getting "_____ed" at because people don't understand how the system works and just want everything to magically be fixed instantly.

If you dont like where you work, then go to school, get a degree, and find a better job.
You say that like it is so easy to do. Put yourself in their situation and rethink how easy it is. A lot of them probably don't have a lot of money and have a family at home depending on that paycheck. How are they going to take 4 years off to get a degree?

It doesnt matter where you work or what you do. If your dealing with a customer you should always show a good attitude.

If they dont like dealing with what comes with the job description then find another job.

Don't take offense to this, but you were handed everything on a silver platter growing up weren't you?

You ever work in a retail type job? I do. Im always polite, helpful to people who are polite to me. If they treat me like crap, I fling it right back at them.

You try getting _____ed at for 4 hours and then be happy.

What they like about the job: HS diploma or GED is all that's required, pay is ok, benefits, and the most important: it's impossible to get fired. In all reality, it's the best job that these people could possibly get.

Now, if that was your situation, and then on top of that, you have to listen to a loT of people ____ and moan about why they don't have this form or that form, why they didn't do this or that, and all the other sob stories people have that don't do nothing for anyone, and it was day in day out day in day out same this same that, day in day out, same this same that.....well, it might ingrain just about anyone to be more than a bit snippy a lot of the time, and downright awnery every now and again (like every 28 days or so).

No, actually I wasnt. I've always had to work for everything now. I've been living on my own since I was 18. I've taken out student loans to go to school & advance in my life.

I've worked everywhere from retail jobs to working for corporate companies.

All i'm saying is why give me attitude when i'm treating you kind & with respect??

Its all about common courtesy. If I approach them like a _____ then I expect to get treated like one, but if I approach them with a smile & a kind attitude, why talk to me like if i'm scum of the earth?

Besides, it's a civil service job - it's difficult to get fired unless they burn the building down...

Many civil servants got the job for it's security, and are just waiting for "thirty years" so they can retire.

(BTW, "Civil Servant" should mean that they serve the public, but oddly appears to translate, at least to them, that WE are THEIR servants.)

Admittedly, my thoughts are based on knowing a vast number of federal government employees over two decades, but I'll stand by 'em. (My ex has been at GSA since March of '65.)

There are "generalizations" that can be legitimately made as to the types of personalities drawn to different jobs. Several large groups of very different average types show up in government jobs, working for utilities, law enforcement, research organizations, and the military, for example. The people who make "careers" in those areas tend to "clump" into distinct personality types that are attracted to the jobs.

There have even been studies on this. Long story short: What you see at the DMV is what you should expect. (And yes, stereotypes ARE based on truth.)

i read that part, no i mean you live in a relatively expensive area, how'd you have a crappy job(if it was), afford your bills/rent, i imagine a car/insurance, and take the time to goto school and afford gas? You weren't eligible for a pell grant at 18, less your parents didn't claim you as a dependant, so did you parents help you get a loan?

i want to know, cuz i have a friend about to do the same thing, live in an expensive place, and hold down a crappy job while barely affording rent and getting a small loan that barely covers tuition.

Given the fact that it is a civil servants position, most people spend have their lives working, this has been proven. So why spend half your live getting upset, being rude, so on and so forth to invididuals who's intentions arent to make your job harder, but to get a resolution to their problem.

Semms like the only way to obtain respect in this country is to be a paying customer.

Well, my Mom always taught me how to save. Around the age of 18, when I moved out, I had already been workin retail for about 2 years. So I had money saved to get on my feet. I moved out primarily because my parents & I dont see eye to eye on anything anymore. So leaving on bad terms they refused to help me with anything. They didnt agree with me moving out at such a young age. I moved to NJ & started working for State Farm Insurance @ 14/hr. That helped me maintain my rent & insurance. At the time I had a civic that was already paid off. So I didnt have any car notes. I wasnt eligible for finanicial aid because technically your suppose to be over 25 or have a child to be eligible. So my only option was a loan.

And trust me, Newark, NJ is not an expensive area. I actually live in the hood, lol.

That's good to hear. Again, no offense, but they you were talking, two things came to mind:

1. You have had every advantage in life and never have had to actually struggle through anything.

2. You earned everything you've ever had.

Glad to see you're #2.

I think alot of it is that these workers know they can't get fired.

It was all fun and games when my husband had to go into the DMV and have them correct his sex on his license, lol. There wasn't one grumpy person working there that day when he offered to show them proof of his gender, lol.

(my husband didn't realize he was marked down as a woman until he was pulled over and then very awkwardly asked by the police officer if his license might of contained an error. After a few "can you prove it?" type jokes, the officer let my husband go without a ticket, lol)

Vixen, it's a common personality trait of the "type" often attracted to the specific type of job, and it tends to be a "self weeding garden" where those who can't stand the atmosphere get out, leaving only those who fit the mold.
