Giant Squids aren't mythical. They've known about them for over 100 years because they've seen the battle scars on sperm whales, and every now and again a tentatcle washes up on shore. And some Japanese researchers recorded one on video for the first time ever last year.

Giant Lizards are called monitor lizards or Komodo Dragons, and they are very real. In fact, if you have an exoctic pet store in your town, you can probably see one.

I haven't seen the video on yahoo there, but I heard about it yesterday. It's a hoax. It has to be a hoax, just like every single other photo or proof of it's existance. The entire legend was conjured up to drive tourism dollars to the Loch Ness.

Yes, giant squid have washed up on shores for years now. They have many carcasses.

As to the other ones, I belive that behind every myth there is a grain of truth. Think about it, if you were an ancient person, and came across dinosaur bones while tilling your field, you would believe that it was a dragon. Trolls and elves are easily explained by birth defects. Animals are born all the time with two heads, and if lacking in any scientific knowledge, you would explain them in any way you could.

I can't really say for sure, that something dosen't exist, Scientists are finding new species all the time.

But, for any large animal (Loch Ness or Bigfoot for example) to last this long without any real scientific proof, just seems too hard to believe.

In certain instances, you can say that something does not exist in a particular location. For example, I can say unequivicably that there is no Loch Ness beast. Can I prove it exactly 100%? No, but I can prove, to a reasonable person, beyond a reasonable doubt, that there is no way it's possible for a massive beast like Nessie to exist in Loch Ness. How? Simple, there is quite simply not enough food to provide an animal of that size with enough calories in order to exist in that lake.

Loch Ness is, for all practical purposes, a dead lake. It's frigid year round, and there aren't any fish worth catching, hence the lake is completely devoid of any recreational purposes, therefore, the citizens needed some other way to bring money to the town.

Now, if Nessie was the size of a house fly, then everything changes. They are finding new bugs and smaller creatures all the time....in places that have never been explored before, or weren't combed for new species like what's happening in South America, remote mountain tops, and in the nether regions of the deepest oceans.

Yeah, I agree. But if I remember right, isn't a LOCH a body of water thats ALMOST completly cut off from any other water right? Doesn't it have a channel that connects it with another river/ocean?

I'm assuming "loch" is an old Galic term for lake. Looked it up on Wikipedia, and it doesn't appear connected on the map, but it's nearby to another lake.

So let's use the idea that it is connected to a larger body of water. Why hasn't it ever been "spotted" in the larger body it's connected to?

I actually had this conversation yesterday about Bigfoot with a friend of mine. It is quit possible for an unknown species of ape to exist, but still be undiscovered. The mountain gorilla was “undiscovered” until 1902. Natives had reported large apes roaming the mountains for centuries, but everyone brushed them off as myth and superstition. The northwestern U.S. (where most sightings occur) has enough undisturbed forest to support a large species. I don’t believe, if it exists, that it’s the “missing link” that some suppose it to be. IF it does exist it is probably a subspecies of an ape similar to Gigantopithecus (although that particular species were quadrupeds) thought to be extinct.

I know for a fact Bigfoot exists. How else can those Jack Link's beef jerky commercials have him in it?

It's possible there is a bigfoot, but not probable, and every day a new forest gets mowed down for timber decreases that probability.

And there is no missing link.

I believe in gnomes & leprechauns. Some people call them "little people" or use the derogatory term "midgets".

But how can they bring such a smile to my face if they're just regular people?
When I see one, i smile, and a warm happiness falls over me.
2, I swear I died and went to heaven.
3, well as we all know 3 gnomes in one area at once isn't possible.

"But what about that little people big world show?"

tv magic.

unicorns could have been a horse with a birth defect
