Default Dodge Charger and Avenger...

saw a commercial today for the Dodge Avenger. To me it looks exactly like the Charger, just a cheaper version. Body is pretty much the same. It would be a little difficult to tell them apart just from looks. Why does Dodge do this? they did the same thing with the Durango and Chrysler Aspen. To me it makes no sense, anyone feel the same way?

Car manutfacturers like all their models of the same years to look alike to promote "brand awareness." If you see one car that you like, and then you saw a similar styled car you'd probably like that too. that's the reasoning for the avenger/charger look. just like how chevy does. and if you see the new 2008 fords, all have the same look in the front grill/headlights.

i know what you mean but at the same time does the body styling have to be so similar. i understand the grill but not the whole car.

from the side its almost an exact fit

Well, there's brand awareness, and then there's too cheap to put different sheet metal on the same platform. Chrysler, GM, Ford, and Nissan practice one, and Toyota practices another. Can you guess which is which?

I think the Avenger should go back to the styling it had in the movie "The Wraith". I don't know if anyone else even remembers that one or not, but that was the first time I saw one. It was awesome.

Edit: Sorry I confused my cars. I thought I remembered seeing the Avenger sticker on the car when I saw the movie last(years ago). Apparently they used a Dodge M4S.

One of the reason why manufacture will make another viehcle look similar to another is to save money on prodution. It cost less to make a door look simlar to another vehicle thay make becuase all they do is modify the stamping to accomidate a diffrent style door handle or gas cap, or to change the shape to fit a diffrent tail light You can see the same thing happening on the previous models of the Nissan Altima,Maxima.
