Why do companies come out with a new beverage, then when people start loving it, they get rid of it?
I used to love Surge. I was a Mountain Dew guy, but switched because Surge was much, much cheaper. After a year or two, you couldn't find Surge on the shelves any more.
Then, a couple of years ago, they had Pepsi Blue. I didn't know too many people that really liked it, but I loved the stuff. Again, it went away.
And most recently, I have been unable to find Vanilla Coke on the shelves anywhere. That seemed to have a longer run than Surge and Pepsi Blue, but Coke must not like that flavor anymore.
I am getting mad at companies for getting rid of a good product. Now, they are combining so many different flavors, it isn't even good anymore. In a couple of years, we will probable be hearing about the "Coke-Pepsi Strawberry Vanilla Black Cherry Citruis Grape Diet Cola" Just bring back the good stuff.

I was a huge fan of Crystal Pepsi back in the day. Then they ruined it by making it Citrus Crystal Pepsi. Then it just went away. That shyt was great. Especially with no carbination. mmmmm
they still have vanellia coke here in houston...at least when i was the store it was there...surge supposdly shurnk your lil friend(if you konw what i mean) so thats why they pulled it cause everyone stopped buying it pepsi crystal/blue wast he shiz.
I use to like Pepsi Twist and it disappeared. Then they came out with Pepsi Lime which I drink now. Usually there are about 20 or more 12 packs of regular pepsi and 4 of Pepsi Lime. I imagine it will go away as soon as they find something new.

Additionally, the herd needs "something new" because of the short attention span of most people.

pepsi blue bombed. mostly because blue is an unnatural color for food. (no blueberries are not blue, they are violet) when ppl are on a diet if they eat off of a blue plate they eat less. think of food packaging not to many blue ones...the color blue makes you lose your appetite.
as for surge, that was good stuff as is vanilla coke. anyone remeber Live Wire Mt Dew? i love that stuff im happy they brought it back. a little secret. open the cap and leave it sit until it gets to room temp. it tastes JUST like liquid orange tic-tacs..mmmmmmm

I'm sure the main reason they get rid of products is because they see them becoming less profitable over time, so they release new products to try to capture that loss in revenue. It just makes sense that if products aren't selling well anymore, to get rid of them and try to replace them with something that is going to sell more.
R&D. the soft drink market is one of the more competitive markets and obviously market share is where its at. the big companies throw stuff on the wall to see what sticks to get market share. that's why we get nine different "Coke" products (i just saw berries and cream coke or some such nonsense).
normally, products are tested locally then if they hit, they go regional or nationwide. many don't make it nationally because of regional taste (explain Big Red" to me) but remain as regional offerings. btw, there are probably seven different "Jolt" sodas available at BevMo in Ca.
