Default EDIT: This is at my house....

Samsung PN50B860
50" Plasma TV

Currently only have a 32" Samsung LCD. It has been good for me... and the picture is good... but it's soooo small. Will now be moving into the bedroom.

I've been waiting quite a while now to get a good TV. It was down to just a couple specific ones. This particular plasma and a 47" LG LED. The LG is apparently last year's model and has been discontinued (it was an LED with full array backlighting and local dimming).

I was hoping to go buy one today at Best Buy or something.. but a) There are ____ for electronics stores around here and b) our Best Buy sucks. I called to ask if they had either the LG or this Samsung plasma ... nope. I was told the Samsung is only sold in "special" Best Buy stores... Magnolia something or other.

I tried to buy online through Best Buy to see if they could maybe ship to store like Walmart or something... no. And the earliest it would let me schedule a delivery date was APRIL 3rd. APRIL! WTF?

Looking around online, Amazon had the Samsung for $1580 but then + tax and + shipping (could do their super saver shipping, but it would take forever). Everything would come to like $1780 or so.

Found another site online through Google Shopping... Vanns.com. They had it for the same $1580 price... but a link to get a better offer. Their better offer was $1499 with free shipping and no tax. Hells ya. The site had awesome ratings via Google (like 1400 of them) so I went ahead and ordered. Used the money I saved on tax/shipping to get a 3yr Square Trade warranty for $175. Out the door, it was $1674. Estimated arrival on Friday.

CAN'T WAIT.

LCDs are fail at large sizes alot of the time and at lower sizes it is expensive to make them over 720p, plus the regular models have slower motors. Plasmas are cheaper to make and have a better quality at larger sizes and the small sizes. They however have a short life expectancy, this is where LEDs come into play... All in all he made a very good choice and got a killer tv at a great price. I plan on getting a 72inch Pioneer LED here pretty soon, just my car takes up more than all of my money.

Hope you got a warranty they are the best investment on Plasma TVs.

Theres a 72in LED TV out there? Damn... I'm still working with a 32in LCD. LOL. Plasmas are great for their size and cost.

The life expectancy and burn in stuff is really not as much of an issue anymore. I've heard nothing but rave reviews on most decent plasmas these days. Of course time will really tell as far as "life" goes.

And yes, I did get a 3yr Square Trade warranty with it.

There are 190something inch tvs now. My grandma's boss just got her a 109inch Pioneer LED. It is like an inch thick and weights maybe 30 pounds.

More pics later... but look like came today:

So much win.

It came in around 11... and I went home to basically unbox it and set it up. Will be firing it up the first time after work (it had to sit for a few hours to come to room temp before using it).

dude, you got an awesome TV. Plasma OWNS LCD, Especially in larger sizes. The only way to get deep color is with a Plasma TV. You also dont have to worry about blur, as plasma is normally rated at 600Hz.

Plasma FTW.

A good friend has a Panasonic plasma and loves it.

I was really close to getting a high end LED LCD... but it was $2k+. A bit out of my budget. This one wasn't cheap, but the reviews and everything for it are all awesome.

Only catch is that my employer makes LCD glass... so um, felt a little compelled to help support my job. In then end though, way more TV for the money in plasma... especially in that size. If I bought LCD, it would have been a 46" ... which isn't bad, but it's not 50".

yea dude, if i could have recommended a plasma i would have recommended panasonic. Samsung still makes awesome stuff though.

everyones eye is different, and the best way to buy a TV is to pick the one that looks best to you.

As long as youre happy thats all that matters.

your tv probably looks like money. we have this same TV on the boat and it's awesome. I stepped up from a big 28 inch tv My mom bought me in 7th grade when I got good report cards, lol so I used some of my enlistment bonus to up to a 40 inch. how was buying online, I was kind of afraid for a tv.

I was looking at a couple but they were mostly previous generation and the newer ones were out of my budget... this one, so far, is incredible - so no complaints at all.

My experience online was great. Ordered from Vanns.com - got a killer deal. Shipping was freight, obviously. When it was scheduled to be delivered today - the guys at the shipping company (YRC) called me in the morning, gave me an estimated time, then called when they were close and I met them at my apartment. The guy helped me bring it inside and I opened it up and verified everything was OK before signing.

Worked out fantastic. I was also a bit worried like you could imagine. I had never ordered anything this crazy online. Overall, A+.

Congrats Allen. Yea, the plasma we have here is pretty nice and it's old (50" only 720p). My old 27" 720p LCD is my ScionLife monitor now. Hahaha.

new plasmas dont have as many issues, the have things that prevent the burn in problems, their just heavier and harder to hang on the wall, but IMO have a smoother picture than a LCD
