Yup, its good and pretty cheap. I go for the red bag usually, the brown bag tastes a bit burnt/dusty to me.

My other usuals are starbucks french roast, sumatra, and gold coast as i dig the strong, smoky flavors

8 O'Clock is what I drink. Just like kiliel, I go with the red bag. The brown bag Columbian stuff is too bitter. Try using more beans and a medium grind, or using less beans and a fine grind... there's a noticeable difference with 8 O'Clock when you do that.

I dunno....it's gonna take a pretty amazing cup of coffee to get me away from my Starbucks Italina roast. That's good stuff.

the way i understand it is...

starbucks coffee is really good high grade coffee and all, the problem is most americans don't really like it because gourmand coffee like starbucks is heavily roasted and very dark and smokey flavoured. which americans don't really like. they like lighter roasted coffee. that is why in taste tests, mcdonalds, 7-11, dunkin donuts and eight o'clock coffee always place ahead of starbucks, because they spend a crap load of money on r&d and focus group testing to see what americans really like about coffee.

now starbucks is from seattle, and they like their coffee out there to be really strong and smokey, starbucks expands, and because their coffee is world class gourmand stuff, people say they like it over regular eight o'clock coffee to sound more refined and such.

oh, and on one last note, everytime i see eight o'clock coffee, i am reminded on the episode of mtv cribs from years ago, with whitney houston and bobby brown, when bobby brown said eight o'clock coffee is the best coffee in the world.

Actually I am a connoisseur I have plenty of Kona and Blue Mountain among other well regarded types and brands in my house. I also have a $3500 built on Miele Coffee machine...oh yeah I am a bit over the top...so here is my opinion and I only drink coffee black..Starbucks is total crap..tastes like rancid and burnt cat ____ at best.....although they have the best sugar and milk..........

You had to say Blue Mountain. Geez man, now I have to go find some somewhere. All the coffee experts can laugh all they want, but the best cup of coffee is from Jamaica.

EDIT: But um... I'd still stop at a Dunkin Donuts for an XL. I have no idea why I've loved DD coffee since I was like 5.

what i see most about starbucks is that people tend to think they are better than everyone else because they pay more for the coffee. i know that is not true with everyone, but it happens out there.

I gonna be honest I think Blue Mountain is #2 compared to pure Kona.....the best Kona I ever had is here
http://www.greenwellfarms.com/
I went to every farm in Kona and they are the best IMHO

Coffee is like wine and cigars..you don't need to over pay for it to be really good

Let's try to keep things in a proper perspective. I also love Kona (Blue Mountain is good, but not my favorite). The thing to remember is that just because a coffee is rare doesn't automatically mean it tastes good. It just means it's going to be expensive. People just assume that because a coffee variety costs $65 a pound than it has to be the best coffee in the world! In reality, the high cost could be from several factors like government trade restrictions, smaller crops, shorter growing seasons, etc. Those things will raise the price but it doesn't mean it tastes any better. Taste is exactly that...a matter of personal taste. I drink what I enjoy, not what someone else thinks I should drink. Some of the best tasting wines and coffees are fairly plentiful, therefore available at reasonable prices.

I think my hesitation with Kona is I've only ever had it when someone else made it. I'm going to order a pound from that greenwell farm and do it up my way.

On a side note, I found a five pound bag of 'Blue Mountain coffee' in Costco for $12. My mind is screaming at me that it's a scam. I'm looking at the bag and seeing visions of the tornado fuel saving device, it's so scamtacular.

So I bought it. And it compared to like Folgers. Now excuse me, I need to go calculate my fuel mileage.

Actually, I did see that post but I didn't realize it was yours. It seemed to contradict your first post so I assumed it was from someone else. Sorry if I took your first post the wrong way. It did kinda seem like you were equating expensive with good tasting. My apologies if that wasn't your intention.

LOL...now that's funny. Yeah, the problem with Blue Mountain is that the name has become popular as a "premium" coffee. As a result, there are tons of counterfit and sub-quality versions on the market. Always look for 100% certified (even though that can be faked too). Another good indication will be the price. The real stuff is currently in the $40 per pound range. You paid $2.40 per pound? How's the mileage?
