Fans of Atreyu...
They came up a few years back right down the street in my old neighborhood! Been a fan since their first demo, but the new album (they're streaming it at www.myspace.com/atreyurock) is not what i expected. Its not bad, but its definitely not the Atreyu I've come to know and love (and most certainly no "Lip Gloss and Black")...
Dont get me wrong, I'll probably go buy it on the 28th but I guess they're just evolving? Seems like they're catering to radio more and more as each album comes out. And I know thats the point of being in a band, but it's a strange feeling when an "underground" band you've followed from the beginning gets major radio play and all the little teeny boppers start hopin' on the band wagon. Feels like something is being stolen from you...
Anyone else care to chime in?

well... can't say much that i listen to atreyu much, though i've heard of them and do like their songs..
most times when bands start out underground and such and grow to popularity.. it's not uncommon to see a transition in how and what aspects in their music change.
it's a bit wee tragic to see that they start catering to the general populous and start losing some of their older hardcore fans that really liked the kind of music when they first started.
at that point you can only say that.. "hmmph.. i knew them before they got really famous"

I got to hang out with alex at a club a few years back in hollywood, bc he was dating a friend of mine, really cool guy, but total idiot when it comes to music, and totally ____ty band that gives hardcore a bad name

We'd be better off if it had! Atreyu=BORING. That is of course, unless you're watching The Never-Ending Story.
Their new album is.....interesting...I won't say its "bad" but it's a little...bubblegum. Not that all bubblegum is bad but...Atreyu isn't suppose to be so...weak, i guess? I do like some of their songs off the new album and I dig the guitar work. I've only listened through it once but musically, I dig some of the songs. I own Suicide Notes and Butterfly Kisses...now that's Atreyu.
I wouldn't describe their album as an evolution...more like experimenting with the devil (mainstream). Evolution to me when it comes down to bands and artists is when their new stuff is mature, you can just outright hear the maturity in the music. I can't hear that in this one...

Good luck with that...lol. You'll end up liking it because you'll probably feel obligated to like anything one of your fave. bands puts out. No matter how bad it is, you'll find highlights in the album to justify your ignorance. I know that's how I am with some of my bands that have disappointed me but have found things to like in their disappointiments. But deep, deep...deeeeep down, you know it's crap.
Finally got around to listening to this album.
Track 5 is pretty legit if you ask me. Also, I dunno if it comes on the retail cd or not, but I acquired a free copy of it via the interwebs and it came with a secret bonus track. THe track is actually a cover of "Epic" by Faith No More. FnM is one of my favorite bands ever.

well i thought that Sucide Notes was awesome, i liked the Curse and i even like the last one, but the new album i would have to listen to a few times, i thought they where bad ___ with Suicide notes, i agree with them becoming more main stream but a lot of bands do that, but a lot of them keep their origionality (Every Time I Die, underOATH, Haste the day, HE IS LEGEND (although they arent heading towards teh man stream right Holly Wood
) i think it depends on how strong a band is and how much they want to keep the the people that followed them from the begning, For example Poison the Well was so bad ___ with The Opposite of December and Tear From The Red and You Come Before You, then their most recent album was nothing like the past but it still rocked. i think bands like that are the ones that are worth listening to and actually BUYING the record if you look at my cd collection the bands that i mentioned are the ones that i BAUGHT the rest i get from friends because its not worth my money to go out and get it. i think Atreyu is/was awesome but they def changed (for the worst i cant say because i havent heard their new cd) just like Avenged Sevenfold.
p.s. In Flames sucks!
