Fraternities?
Beta Theta Pi
Honestly, if I had to do it again, I wouldn't have joined. Sure I met a bunch of cool people, but I knew most of them before I joined. I didn't really get anything out of it. Seemed like a waste of money.

Nope not in a Frat, got tons of friends in them though....Just aint for me, but being best buds with people who are in them is just as good as being in a frat, and you dont have to pay to be there friend, and get all the benefits......

depends on how you spend your money. some would say modding your car is a waste of money as well.
the gaining of weight is mostly true, tho i lost 15 lbs pledging (school, work and that = stress = lots of time in the gym) and have been getting bigger (muscle) ever since because i have time to work out properly.
pledging is pretty much the best thing you never want to do again.

Sorry I got to disagree... it's more that we're a group of friends, who understand economics. Here's the example I like to give.
Say you and 4 friends hang out pretty often. You decide to throw a party. No prob, you go to one person's house, decide to split a keg, one guy brings the stereo, and you're good to go. At that party, you make 3 or 4 friends, who you say you'll invite to the next one.
You want to throw a second party... and since it was so big, you want 2 kegs. Since each guy doesn't feel like paying $40+ a pop, you call the friends you made and say "hey, want to help us with the party"? "Sure!" ... and they bring $20, and now you've got 2 kegs.
Eventually, you're all hanging out together much more... and you get tired of always cleaning up after everyone, since they all show up and trash YOUR apartment. So you hire a maid, while looking for another place, and leaving your roommate to deal with the people. You charge everyone a slight cleanup fee, just incorporate it into the party share.
Then you start hanging out in a bigger place because yours is too small anyway, and you get the maid to go clean up that place. Then it's commented that there are never any snacks, so you get a snack machine guy to come in and put in a machine. The TV there sucks, so you pool your funds and get a 72"+.
It's not "buying friends," it's paying your fair share of resources that you'll happily use for your 5 years of college
