Yeah women have the best excuse all they have to say is "Aunt Flow has come to visit, I can't come in today..."
I find that if you say you have a family emergency then it works not only perfectly but you never get asked, if you do just act like it will make you mad/sad.

some girl at work actually called in and told my boss that she couldn't come in today "'cause Big Daddy came over last night and kept me up all night, i'm worn out..." I couldn't stop laughing when I heard that. T-M-I people...

I've always wanted to use the **** Glaucoma excuse, but I don't think anyone at my office would buy it.
"I don't think I'm gonna be able to come to work today. I've had a relapse of **** Glaucoma. I just don't see my butt coming into work today." hahaha

Always pin the blame on someone else, that way you don't have fake a sick voice or stay hidden.
My "mom" needs me to accompany her to her Dr's appt. She's really nervous, can't drive after it, etc. Insert appropriate blame victim as needed.
That's one of the other great things about having kids.
