Default Handicapped Members - specifically wheelchair users

Hey folks,

I am actually not handicapped, but I am doing a simulation for my Rehabilitation Engineering class at Carnegie Mellon University. I have to be paraplegic for two full days in a row, and I was wondering if the wheelchair-bound members of the forum could give me insight into the modifications or adaptations you made to your environment and living spaces to facilitate daily life. i am particularly interested in techniques you guys have for navigating around varied terrain, how to get into and out of the wheelchair efficiently and smoothly, and how you transfer to the toilet.

this is a serious inquiry, as i have to write a full report and diary after my simulation, so any help and insight is truly appreciated. i do appreciate and understand what it is like to be wheelchair-bound (at least for a temporary duration).

thanks in advance.
