Has anyone killed a bird in flight with their car?
I did today. I feel kind of bad about it. Oh well...
I was just cruising along at 60 this morning, minding my own business, when this bird decided to fly directly across my path, left-to-right, about 2 or 3 feet above the ground. It struck the hood-bumper line, then deflected straight upwards about 40+ feet into the air. I looked in my rear view mirror and it came down several seconds later like a dead weight, falling straight to the ground. It was still in the same place on my return trip an hour later, so it's pretty dead.
It also left several feathers in my grille, and a small chip in the paint. That sucks.

Oh yeah, thank god for that. I don't see a lot of deer round here, but I can recall a couple of deer-strike threads from the past. Those suckers can total cars and can really mess up drivers too.
Once, on the way to work, before I had my xA, hit a bird and it got stuck in between the bumper and grille, DOA. I worry about it almost every day on the road to work, I work at a grain elevator and there are deer running along the fence looking for an opening, then when you drive by them, they jump towards the car, or flocks of birds fly accross the front of the car, death wish I guess.
They can fly as high as they want to, yet they insist on crossing the road at 24" off the ground. I try not to hit 'em, but if it happens...oh well. Better that than crash my car to avoid them.

This is what happened to me...
It was night time... i was cruising around 50 mph and there was a red light half mile away... i started to slow down...
light turned green... im in the left lane... the car that was stopped at the red light in the right lane never acellerated and was still stopped 5 - 7 seconds after the green light....
anyway im about 40 feet away from the light and the guy is still stopped and still goin about 40-50mph
The next thing i know is there are geese walking trying to cross the street and BAM the goose hits into my rim or my tire (10 mins later i got out to see what was on my tire but no blood) so idk EXACTLY what happened :-(

I got one in my porsche 944, and also caught one in my header pipe of my streetbike (right behind the front wheel).. cooked it, I had to scrape it out with a stick.. you could smell it burn for a few miles.. That was on the suzuki

I hit one that was attempting to take flight and failing miserably, does that count?
He took off from the road, actually managed to get higher than the roof of my xD, just as soon as I thought it was clear, he dove. ended up trying to fly under my car I guess, heard a few thuds and then this explosion of feathers behind me. I'm going to hell, but I thought it was funny
Then not 2hrs later, a squirrel tried to run under me, and I think I suddeny felt bad for the bird and went out of my way to dodge the squirrel. The wifey on the ther othe hand was cheering for a 2nd roadkill bc she missed the bird, and scolded me for missing him...

Hasn't happened to me, but I saw it happen right next to me. I was driving on the highway and I saw a bird fly straight into the front of a Wrangler that was doing about 75...The bird exploded and the Wrangler driver didn't even notice.
i hit a bird once driving my work van, a chevy express. i found the bird a week later stuck between the head light and bumper in a tight spot. oh and it was summer time and it stunk but we could not find it till then.
