set your iPod to manual update.
then click on you iPod on the left side of iTunes, and move that library into your iTunes library.

iTunes prohibits copying music from your iPod to your computer.

It's still there; I just checked. . . I dunno why you couldn't access it. If you still can't access it, just google search it, and 50 kabillion different mirrors will be available.

is there anyway that you can just use ur ipod to play music through your computer. i.e. hook up the ipod to your pc and play the music from the ipod out of your comptuer speakers?

if you are using windows there is an easy way to copy the music from your ipod back to your hard drive. it involves nothing more than copying and pasting the files using windows explorer (not internet explorer). if your computer crashed you will most definitley lose your playlists but there is still a way to copy every song currently on your ipod back to your hard drive without ripping all of your CD's over again. However, I'm not going to type the entire process until i know you really need me to. PM me if you need help.

let me know what approach you take. . . I've only been semi-satisfied with ephpod and am looking for simpler ways to make two way transfers onto the iPod. That and I HATE iTunes.

ephpod seems to be geared towards manually adding song to yer ipod not transferring from ipod to comp.

yeah. . . you can trasfer from comp to ipod, but it's not super easy. It was the only free program I could find at the time.

So what program are you using instead?

Dude...drop a $20.00 on a book at Borders. It will explain EVERYTHING including changing batteries, hacking, changing files, and mving files from the iPod BACK TO the PC. You have like 15 or more books to choose from. Problem solved. I PM'ed you how to do it, but I guess it was too difficult to understand. Good luck with it.

And next time BACK THE FILES UP. Take this advice from someone who has had to reload her 3000 songs back on to her PC 4 times now....Bought the book, backed up the files, I'll NEVER lose them again!

Yeah. . . I had to transfer my files from my ipod to my comp. . . I used ephpod, but it was a pain.

There are a few other options (programs) online, if you do a google search. . . some are free, some are shareware, some you have to pay for.

I did it WITHOUT any outside files or programs. Everything is there...you just need to know how to find it. Did I mention I HATE iTunes?

I can even get my songs off my Shuffle...And thats basically just a memory stick, not a HD like the iPod. Just get the book!

the problem is I could get like 1300 songs back. but that leaves almost 4000 that were missing. yet all my songs work when i play my ipod in my car so I know theyre still there.

I back mine up onto an external HD. But I also back it up onto another laptop also...just in case. As simple as 'click and drag' in windows explorer. it takes a little practice so you don't end up with multiple files and such, but nothing too technical.

If you were able to get the 1300, you should be able to get ALL of them...unless they aren't on there.
