First you want to look for an original xbox with a samsung drive in it these are the best you can identify the type of drive without opening the case just power the xbox on open the dvd tray and if it has one big hole and two smaller holes it has the smasung drive in it. This is a good tip for buying a used xbox. Second you need to order a modchip they can be found easily lots of links on xboxscene.com what you are looking for is just your basic xecuter pogo pin solderless chip.

Once the chip arrives you open the case pull out the stock hardrive and the dvd drive and install the chip it screws right down onto the motherboard onto the solderpoints and they come with directions.

Next step is to put it all back together then you need to go onto MIRC or a bittorent site and downlaod a copy of "slayers" this is your install dvd you can use nero to burn the image onto the dvd there are tutorials on xbox scene on how to do this with the right settings in nero so it will read.

Next you boot to slayers then flash the bios on your new chip then cut the machine off

Now open up the case of the xbox install your large hardrive all the way up to 300gigs I usually use 120 gig seagates seem to work the best in the xboxes don't ask me why.

then reboot to slayers and select full install this will give you a whole new dashboard and all the modified apps that we all seek. to update diffrent programs in the system you will need to learn how to use flash FXP and how to connet to effnet on MIRC all these tutorials are on xbox scene also available on effnet are all your game trainers and the nudity mods for the asian girls voleyball games.

From here I can't tell you what to do you'll easily figure it out and just remember if you do this you will have free games but you won't be able to use xbox live there are other alternative free servers to xbox live though that you don't have to pay for but people can use trainers there which for some can be annoying try xlink kai. enjoy and I hope this helps people I will write up a playstation flip top mod DIY and the 360 DIY when the 360 chips hit

 

have you seen any issues with a 300 gb drive? I'm want to turn one of my xbox's into a media center pc.

 

no I haven't but the guys who usually use the 300 gig drives use the install disk excusers unleash X or lightining loader but those are moe technical and it is vey hard to find lightning loader anymore even though I consider it the best slayers will work fine keep in mind 120gig hardrive will hold about 80 games and 50 divx movies and I'd say roughly 2000 mp3's bigger drives are fine the only issue is a bigger drive is more prone to failure keep in mind you can norton ghost an exact copy of the drive but it has to be the same kind of drive like two seagates but know I don't see a problem with a drive that large it's not the norm but hey go for it there shouldn't be any reason it won't work you really need to read the tutorials on xbox scene to learn how to update your programs and get your codes for the weather channel live weather. which is part of xbox media center. good luck to you. I have installed two 300 gig drives both time I flashed the chip with slayers and used lighting loader for the install because it is so much faster at the time I was doing 15 xboxes a day so time was a factor. I'm sure before too long I'll be doing the 360's like crazy too it's just a matter of time.
