No political party would ever put a sure-winner in as a candidate. . . why do you think John Kerry ever made it so far? Seriously, it wasn't very hard to beat George W. Bush, but they had to pick the lamest candidate ever. Nobody actually liked Kerry. . . they just hated Bush more.
Why would McCain never be allowed to run? Because he'd win. Why would he win? Because he is fairly moderate-- which is why they'd never let him run. Pick someone who's in the middle, and the most amount of people (since that's where the bell curve is) will vote for them, plain and simple. But unfortunately, someone in the middle does not always best protect his/her own party's interests. That's why you go for extremists like a Kerry or a Bush, so that they preserve the interests of the party. That's the economy is spiraling down the drain; that's why people get mad; that's why Congress switches party influence every 8-12 years; that's why we never have a candidate we can really rally behind.
Down with the primary system and down with the two-party system! But most of you sports fans are so team crazy, that you blindly ally with one political party. No political party in the US ever really represents your interests (unless you are a hippie Vegan substance abuser or Neo-**** Mel Gibson fan). The truth is that BOTH parties represent different aspects of your interests.
Stop watching the news people and pick up some political science books. . . find out the secrets that politicians (both liberal and conservative) live by, but will never admit to.
But in '08, we'll just get two more lame candidates (for party purposes) and everyone will swing left since GWB demonized republicans. So instead of an overly right wing gov't, we'll have an overly left wing. Never in the middle. . . never in the middle. Whatever happened to having a government that represnted the people? Is that idea so dead? So much for democracy. . . it's just mob rule now. . .
