Default I got a ticket ... how much will it cost?

I got a ticket yesterday for not completely stopping at a stop sign. Does anyone know how much it will cost? Ive heard $350!!! Since this is my first offence, is it possible that when i go to court, the judge will let me off?

Yea, I hear that most "California stops" cost about $300. Good luck with that. Your best bet is to take traffic school if this is your first offense so you dont get a point on your record. The judge probably wont let it go unless you have a damn good reason.

^It was during break, at school. I went to get something to eat from the nearest store, and I took too long. I tried to hurry back, so i would'nt be late for my government class, and I got a little careless. You think that'll work? (that is the truth too)

i think u go to the informal court, well.... the main reason why u SHOULD go to court because instead of paying 300+, make a court date, go to court.... and plea guilty.... 95%+ of the judges would automatically deduct from the total amount, but expect to pay more than 200 bucks since it is a stop sign afterall...

and the change of court time, or set ur court date to afternoon thingy, WOULD NOT work (i've tried, and so are my friends.... didn't work) cuz..... unless it is an EMERGENCY, the cop would show up no matter what..... at least in fremont, they only let u change the court date ONE TIME ONLY.....

there is no reason to fight this ticket because basically "you did it" and it will not affect you negatively to admit it. fighting it may just tick off the judge.

in CA....

there is no problem as this was your first ticket. you don't really have to even appear in court. go early (before the trial date) to the "traffic window" at the jurisdictional court. request 8 hour traffic school. you will have to pay a "traffic school fee" in lieu of "bail". the traffic school fee will be about $195.00 (for a rolling stop). you will be given about 45 days to complete traffic school. once completed, nothing will be on your record; i.e., no points, no record of the ticket.

if you do not have the money right now, you can also request one "extension" at the window. you will be given approximately 60 days after which you will have to come back and request traffic school or pay the fine.

believe me...even though the fine will be less than traffic school, in the long run it won't. your insurance premium will increase more than the approximate $50.00 difference between the traffic school fee and fine, in the long run.

lastly, you cannot go to traffic school again for 18 months. however, in the unlikely event you get another ticket within that time you can appear in court on the trial date and ask to go to the "problem driver program" 12 hour traffic school. if this option is awarded (it generally is), you will not get the points for the ticket, but it will be on your record....your insurance company will see it on your record but will see that you have no points for it. the fee for this is approximately $250.00 in fines and $50.00 for traffic school fees.

As soon as my pay check comes in, im buying a cop detector, i hear cobra's the best. I know it wont help in my currennt situation(running stop), but who knows one day, i go a little over the posted speed limit, and theres a cop lurking around. 18 month's seems like a very long time.

plead not guilty, then call the da or wait for him to mail you a plea agreement and try getting it changed to something else maybe.

is the problem u cant afford it or dont want higher insurance?

i had my speeding ticket changed to non driving offense, it cost more but it was cheaper than what my insurance would have gone up for 3yrs

consider that it is fair, in Hong Kong.... they don't even have anything called "traffic court", they jus straight take pts off ur DL, and it stays for 3 yrs

jus go to court (or not, depends on the court), plea guilty..... going to window wouldn't help cuz they are not the judges, and they can't make any decision (once again, depends on the city).... i have had more fix-it tickets where i HAFTA see the judge even though it is signed off by a police officer

i doubt it that will work, and as far as i know based on my ticket, and how the system works is, they will send you a notice in the mail with a bail amount, the least it will be is 135.00, it will give you several options option 1) pay the full bail amount (stated on notice) plus 35.00 admin fee to go to traffic school.

option2) appear in court on or by the date posted on the citation or the notice and plead your case, if the fine is indeed 300.00 for a rolling stop, by showing up they may knock it down to the 135.00 or lower.

However traffic school is a 35.00 fee, plus the cost of the school online is usually 30.00

word of advice, and this is not to be an insult, or to belittle anyone, the local and state govt of californina is not being very lienient with drivers under 21 anymore, especially in court, from what my employees are saying when they go to court the judge is making them pay the full bail amount.

california passed a law that say if your under 18, you cant drive after 11pm period, and you cant have a passenger under the age of 25 for any reason......its like a 500.00.
in fresno the police are stakingout highschools and writing tickets and calling parents out to the scene.........

anything to make a dollar is the motto in californina.
good luck

do option 1, the BS about cops not wanting to come in to court....thats a load, most departments require the officers to appear incourt, they are paid either way.........so you can go to court, but just plead no contest, and the judge will most likely ( 75% sure) reduce the fine listed on the notice.

just wait to see the letter, then base the descion what the fine is, also traffic school was 30.00 and took me like 45 minuts to do it, they give you list in that notice that has court approved schools.
