anyone with an iPhone 3g should be excited about this update which is a major one.

I updated earlier today and just got home, here are some impressions.


-contact list load time is cut in half

-text lag is now almost completely gone, I did get it to lag for a second when one time today.

-genius playlist creator on the iPhone itself. You click a song play it, hit the genius button and creates a playlist of songs similar to it from your music collection. This can be done directly on the iPhone

-edge reception performance increase, I get 5 bars at home now instead of 2

-3g I get an additional 2 bars now, BUT performancewise, it looks like theyre fake bars. i.e. if I had 2 bars prior to the update I now get 4 bars. but when I use the internet it drops back to 2 bars and moves back up to 4 when I dont use it. blah

-my battery life seems to have increased about 30-40 percent.

-everything loads much faster i.e. photos and contact editing is much faster.

-ugh people sound tinny on the phone now, whats up with that?

those are about the only things that Ive noticed so far. I know there are more fixes but dont really notice them since I probably didnt use it enough to discover it.

I've noticed pretty much the same stuff. I'm glad that the text doesn't really lag anymore. Also, the 3G icon is different. The 3G performance for me seems a little bit better but battery life has surely increased.

i havent done the upgrade just yet. im waiting on the dev teams to have it jailbroken... i have the 2.0.2 and its jailbroken but i did not unlock it. dont have to since im on ATT. but ive heard lots that its a great big update. once dev teams have it jailbreak ready, i will upgrade.

i used to have a jailbreak version of 2.0.2 and the text lag was so bad and it would randomly restart so i just said forget it.

the only time I experienced text lag when once when I opens the sms and proceeded to type right away, it froze for a second and then it typed normally, aside from that all the other texts had no lag.

I think the most noticeable differences was the absence of text lag and everything loads much quicker.

im just waiting for 2.1 to be hacked then ill update
ive seen 2.1 on my friends itouch2 and the genius thing is pretty cool
still not cool enough to want me to unjailbreak my iphone 3G
hopefully winpwn gets an updae and can hack 2.1 so i can update

I've been keeping a log of all my dropped calls since sept. first, and of all the times safari crashes whether its on edge, 3g or wifi. So far I drop about 4 calls a day and safari crashes too often. So we'll see if the update fixes any of that. If not, might have to file a claim against apple and ATT for false advertisement. Aside from the GPS I wish I never got rid of my 1st gen iphone, the 3g has waaaaaaayyy too many issues that need to be ironed out.

you can hack 2.1 now. I just finished hacking it. you can use quickpwn or pwnage depending on your os.

1st gen iPhone crew, holla! Anywho, i updated mine even though it was for the 3G iPhone problems. I now have no text lag or contacts scrolling lag either. I think this update did the trick!

just got the update this morning, biggest thing I noticed was no more text lag and better battery life. before if I didn't charge my phone it would be dead by now but right now it's still at full bars, yes!!! oh yeah and the different looking "3g" icon.

I hope they update the GPS soon to do real time GPS when you ask it for directions like a GPS unit. It's a pain to keep clicking it for the next turn.

yea, another thing i noticed on the the 1st gen iPhone or 2.1 update was no box around the Edge "E" up top. Here's a screen shot of mine...



also on the iPod it shows the artist under the song you have in your playlist instead of just the song name. of course just minor things but it makes a big difference to some people.

^ that's right..and I just noticed it has the bar to scroll through the song like on a regular Ipod now.
