Default Lambo doors done right.....(photos)

The whole car needs to be designed so that virticle doors work opening and closing.
Notice how the doorway is open for entry.
Also notice the shape of the foor frames, triangular for strength. DIABLO
This door will not crush in due to the hardended shape of the door frame, even if struck at speed.

The owner was getting inspected at this gas station. I was so pleased when he had to hit the horn, It sounds exactly the same as the e-bay air horn that I installed. BWAAP

OOps, how did that picture of my car get posted?

There was one year that the Lamborgine Countach had explosive charges in the door frame. In a high speed crash, the integrity of the car would hold up but the driver was stuck inside the car because the doors were not operable. So some Italian engineer / designers decided to install the charges as a safty measure.
They were only used as designed once. Every other discharge was for show, owners would 'blow their doors off' at partys. Not available that next year of course.
That one time they were used as designed was a good story.
A rich owner bought one and wanted it the next day. It was hundreds of miles away in southern Europe. Shipping could only get it to the new owner in days, so they had a driver deliver it by driving it at about 120 mph for about 6 hours. The driver got cut off and had to go off the road to avoid a family in a VW bus.
He spun around and around as he plowed for about a quarter of a mile into a corn field. Structual damage was not too severe but the doors would not open. The farmer was approaching the wreck when the driver 'blew the doors off' and stepped outside. Poor simple farmer thought he was attacked by aliens when he saw this.

Damn the 6.0s were good looking cars. I still have the dealer's ad for the last Diablo ever built and the only 6.0 in white that I pulled out of Dupont Registry...
