Default Melatonin

Okay.. there was a post recently about DST.. and melatonin was mentioned a couple times. So.. after a lot of suggestions from people here and from others not on SL, I decided to buy some while grocery shopping on Wednesday. I just took it (1:20 AM) and thought I'd give an update in the morning with how it worked out for me, especially with having to be up at a certain time.

But also wanted to hear from anybody else who has used it, or who went and got some after the DST thread.. how does/did it work for you?

Melatonin as a sleep aid didn't seem to work for me. I find valerian root to work better,

I don't find it works so much as a sleep aid, but it sorts out the chemical balance somewhat to make the sleep you get "more restful" or of more value to the brain. (You still need just as much sleep, and it may still be just as hard to GET to sleep, but it is generally better sleep.)

For me works best an hour or so before I'm ready to sleep...

I've always used Ambien, but I don't like asking for it.. I feel like I'm some drug addict or something. Even if I'm not, I feel like that's what doctors think if I ask for it. Am I okay to keep asking for it or is my thinking right?

If you need it due to insomnia, then no worries. Is it true that some people who take Ambien sleep eat?

I used melatonin a while back when i had rotating shift work..

it made the transition between sleeping during the day and sleeping during the night because of work schedule much more easier

it's not much of a sleeping aid.. but more of a reset for your biological clock is how i viewed it

I tried many prescription sleep aids and none of them worked for me. They either made me very very drowsy when I woke up, made my stomach hurt or just plain didn't do anything. I started taking Melatonin last year and it works wonders. My problem is initially falling asleep. I always have so much on my mind and I can't seem to get my brain to calm down enough to fall asleep. Melatonin neutralizes that and I fall asleep right away now. To me, its a miracle pill.

I have no clue about sleep eating. I just know that if I take Ambien and go to bed, I'm pretty much high and don't remember a single thing once I DO wake up after finally going to sleep.

But ambien doesn't have the problem of feeling drowzy the morning after you take it.. so I like it more than anything else I've taken.

Very true, ambien is very good about not making you drowsy in the morning, though it does have some side effects if you stop taking them after continual use. I've never heard of people sleep eating though I know that could be an existing aliment that the meds do not cause.

Now if you’re like me and got nothing to do the next day you should try staying awake after taking some ambien if you really want to see/hear some freaky stuff.

^^I know some people who like to take Ambien recreationally. I hear it can be pretty bizarre.

i tried ambien and i slept walked 3 nights out of 6 that i took it. I did get into the kitchen one night and made a bowl of cereal. The first night and 3rd time i ended up outside walking around.

Theres a new one now where peopel wake up to find themselves driving. Keep in mind i did a LOT of sleep walking as a child, so that may play into all of this.

I didn't get anything out of Melatonin either. But I really liked Ambien. Maybe a little too much.

Not even close man...

LSD-25 and Zolpidem Tartate are two entirely different beasts...

Although taking Ambien and forcing yourself awake will bring on some visual hallucinations (try reading a book on it, the words melt together) it will also make you exhibit some rather odd behavior... (Ie: I used to get on my webcam and broadcast my "comedy act" that never existed).. wake up and find tons of strange emails from people on how funny I was last night at 3am lol

As for the sleep eating, it doesn't make you hungry, but if you get up you can fall into the course of performing normal actions while under the influence..

A good alternative is Lunesta... not as much weird ____ happening with that one lol

Melatonin is a naturally occurring drug, made by the body and used by the brain. Some people don't make enough of it and for them melatonin tablets/capsules make up the shortage.

For those who already make enough, adding more doesn't help.

If it doesn't help, don't take it, if it does, do.
