Dark, the darker the better.

Milk tastes wrong to me. Cheap, flavourless, too sweet.

Chocolate should have a texture, and be potent. Milk chocolate is just limp, which is why it is paired with things like crisped rice, peanuts caramel and nughat: it can't stand on its own.

Wasn't trying to be pretentious or trying to impress you -- this was a query my wife had asked so I asked it -- easy enough - right?

I think there is a common misconception that if something is imported, it's better. People feel that way about wine, chocolate and other things too. The fact is, some of the better California and New York wines are on par with the best French and Italian wines. And I would put a Hershey's Chocolate bar up aginst the best from anywhere.

^^Matt...most american chocolate (cheap hershey's etc.) contains wax. were most imported chocolate does not, even the cheap stuff, until you get REALLY cheap stuff...

simple test....
Eat an Aero bar and then drink of cold water while your mouth is still full of melted chocolate...the chocolate should turn hard...but melt again almost instatly..still with a creamy texture.

Eat a Hershey's bar (cheap, no Symphony bars) and drink a cold glass of water while your mouth is full of the melted chocolate..it hardens, and feels like you dumped wax in your mouth YUCK.

I can't say I've ever done that, but I'll take your word for it. In my job, I get "gifts" from sales reps all the time. One of the popular gifts (because it seems impressive) is imported chocolate. I get stuff from Switzerland, Germany, France...all over. It's good stuff, no doubt. But I'll take a good ol' Hershey bar any day. Did you know that Hershey's chocolate is never touched by human hands throughout the entire manufacturing process? Not that that matters, but I thought it was cool.
