motorcycles anyone?
I just got my moto license and I am planning on getting a bike soon. Does anyone here have a bike? and what kind? what was your first bike? how much you pay?
start small. a great starter bike that you can still grow into is a the kawi ninja 500 and suzuki sv 650. Personally, if i did it all over again, i would have started on an SV-650.
Best of luck. make smart decisions out there. it's your life on the line. i have pretty much given up riding the street and just ride track.

get a 600 to start out on. Insurance is gonna be the most expensive part I got quoted @315 a month for full coverage since I haven't ridden in 3years and I have one ticket on my license. The FZ6R isn't that bad to start out on either.
i was looking at either getting a Kawi Ninja 250R, or a Ninja 650R, they both look flippin sweet and wont break your bank!
ive driven 600s before and its more then i would ever need, but i think a 250 might also be fun for me!

I wouldn't get it for speed, obviously. I'd get it for the MPG and just as a cruiser. I find it hilarious when people get a 600 as their first bike, then within a month they're complaining that it's too slow. Then they get a 1000 and within another month, they lay it down because they ride like a douche.
Some very good advice on here. This is what I live by:
Never ride above your ability! Getting a smaller bike allows you to make mistakes (Don't kid yourself, you will. Everyone does) without adding the equation of excessive speed to it.
Wear your gear! It will save your butt. It did mine.
I started on a 1974 Honda CT90 (only 90cc!) when I was 16 and a beat the crap out of them...and myself! Than a Kawasaki KZ400 and worked my way up to what I have now.
I currently own a Harley Fatboy and a Kawasaki Z1000. Take it from me Harleys are NOT that great. You're just paying for the name.

i get a kick out of how the technology stays the same, yet the price still increases and people that need that "look" are willing to pay. what i love about the japanese market is constant evolving, constantly getting lighter/faster, etc... also, i'm speaking of this concerning the bikes being used for TRACK purpose. For street riding, they are just very dependable if you take care of them. shoot my '05 has got 26k miles on the clock and still runs like a dream and I beat on it.
The twin 650's are a great starter bike even though they can still bite you HARD if you don't respect them. If you get an I-4, please stay 500 or lower. For your own sake. You can always sell whatever you pick up first later and get something bigger when you have a little more experience. that is crucial.
you have very good advice here for sure. get yourself gear, even slightly used is fine. i scored a 1 piece teknic suit on ebay for $250 last year. don't waste money on anything but leather. if you refuse leather, just go buy a skiing jacket from wal-mart because it's the same thing as a "mesh" jacket. it is better to sweat than bleed. road rash is permanently disfiguring. no thank you.
i dont think that you should really get quoted for full coverage when it comes to your bike... parts are a lot cheaper and a lot of things are gonna happen to it like a car but its more manageable when it comes to repairing damages so i think liability is the only thing you need as far as insurance goes...
if you drop the bike, you can just take one fairing off and repaint that part...
IMO you dont need full insurance... look at the coverage youll be getting and ask yourself if you really need it... hell i dont even know why i got full coverage on my car...

Some people can stay off the throttle, That great! The other 90% start off well but end up getting hurt when they push it too far.
If I give my kid a BB gun and she shoots herself, I know she isn't ready to handle the 22. Let alone the 12 gauge.

I was in a BMW shop and a guy came in with checkbook open wanting to buy a 800 touring bike. The owner could have had an easy sale. Instead he sent the guy down the street to the Honda shop to buy a used 250 to practice on. I asked him why he passed on the easy sale and he said "If I sold him the BMW I'd sell one bike and he'd get hurt and have a bad taste for BMWs forever. This way I'll probably sell him two or three BMWs and he'll be happy with them.
George <--who started on a Taco minibike and then moved "up" to a Honda CL-70.
All my friends started off on a 250cc but after 4-6 months they traded it in for bigger bikes. The thing about the 250cc now is that they are good for riding in the city. Go with the GSXR600 or the GSXR750. You'll never get bored with the 750. Its a great bike. My first bike was the GSXR600 and i loved that bike. Had it for 2 years before i sold it for college money.
well i guess people these days are just to cool imo i know of tons that started with 600 never any problems ...ithink its just everyone wants to be bad @$$ so like stated they think they can handle but dont and get hurt id never buy a anything but a 600 but i guess im one of the few that understand...good luck on your choice....
