I need to get me a 40 or 45. Wanna teach the wife to shoot. Wanna get my concealed first though. Just been to lazy to go get the paperwork and fingerprints done.

There are a lot of good ones out there - but there is no "perfect" one.
Just as in cars, andy choice is a compromise, and is hopefully based on the particular features that make the most difference to the individual.
For my choice of the little Taurus 9mm, my main criteria were small size, very flat, lightweight, manual safety, stainless or titanium, reasonable price.
I didn't NEED a new daily carry, my trusty S&W was doing just fine, but it was a bulky, heavy beast. For a comfortable carry I wanted something smaller, flatter and lighter than my all metal S&W.
Some people want a big gun, some want a small, some don't mind 3 pounds of hardware hanging off their belt, some do.
I carry the Taurus and a tiny KelTec .32 BUG. They do me fine.
BTW, Brock, there's a .40 of the Taurus I have, too...

Lol Chris I was getting a Springfield XD for Christmas. It's an awesome gun, just make sure you get the extended mags. The added grip makes the gun much more comfortable. The XD is a huge gun btw, you might want something a little less beef.
Just don't get a Glock 4 the spring they added is shi and it jams constantly.

If you like S&W you will like Taurus, both are the same company yet independent... Or something like that... Taurus is Brazilian and S&W is based out of the good ol' U.S. of A.

True - both were/are owned by Bangor Punta, and while independent have a LOT in common.
Do I like my PT709? Yes I do.
That doesn't mean that I will recommend any firearm to anyone, only that I like mine for my particular needs.
There are some few that I will not recommend under any circumstances. hey are best left undiscussed unless someone happens to be mislead enough to want one and mentions it.

I am liking the new 24/7 G2 compact .40 and the 24/7 G2 DS Pistol .40 from Taurus! Gonna be til at least next summer til I get one though. Need a tonnuea cover for the truck first!

Tasers are legal in some places, not in others, depends on local and state laws.
Those that require direct contact (you press it against the other person) are not a valid self defense product IMHO, as they require you to close with the "bad guy" and therefore put you in danger.
Only devices that allow you to "act at a distance" to protect yourself and others are reasonable for self defense.
If some guy is wielding a knife or swinging a stick or even just trying to smack you in the face with his fist, trying to get close enough to actually touch him with a hand-held unit isn't really the smartest move...

I held the "Top-Gun" award for 3 years straight in the BOP marksman event... so I was very used to needing to hit my intended target with as few rounds as possible, therefore it being a revolver and potentially "out gunned" didn't really bother me that much since I had accuracy on my side. One of the other big things I liked about having this specific model was that I could use the standard .38 rounds which are generally less expensive than larger caliber guns but still have a good amount of stopping power. And with 2-3 sets of rounds in speed loaders on my belt made reloading in critical situations pretty damn quick & easy considering it was a revolver.
