xdorkx, xtc2006.
Didn't say anything about christians.
Christians =/= Creationists.
Maybe you should read more carefully before jumping the gun and getting defensive.

One part they'd try to refute:
The hadrosaur, a plant-eating dinosaur that walked on two legs, lived 67 million years ago, during the late Cretaceous Period.

Yes... the beginning of the Bible begins with the period of creation, but it does not clarify how long each "day" of creation was. The bible says "one day for god is like a thousand years in our eyes", which tells us that He has a different sense of time than we do. So creation of the earth could have taken millions of years (which gives a stretch of time for dinos).. but humans have only been on the earth some 6k years (he rested on the 7th day...the Bible makes no mention of an 8th day...so you can say were still on that 7th day, per se).
First I think it is important to note that the first books of genesis were, according to most christians, the words of god, not those who "wrote" the bible.

Second, all it takes is a little research into the meaning of the Hebrew word for day and the usage of it in consistency. It should be common knowledge that the first five books of the Old Testament were written in Hebrew. The Hebrew word for day used in the genesis is account is “yom”, which is a definite 24-hour period.

But now, lets pretend to accept the word yom is really meant for eons of time, how then can you explain the following?

1) If a day is an era, why are an evening and a morning even mentioned? Actual days must be intended, otherwise, men who lived hundreds of years, e.g., Seth and Noah, would really have lived millions of years. If a day is an era, then a year must be tremendously long, perhaps encompassing hundreds of millions of years;

2) If a day is an era, then much of the Old Testament becomes chaotic. For example, in each of the following verses the same Hebrew word “yom” is employed: “And the flood was forty days upon the earth” (Genesis 7: 1 7), “And he [Moses] was there with the Lord forty days and forty nights” (Exodus 34:2, and “Thus I fell down before the Lord forty days and forty nights...” (Deuteronomy 9:25). If “yom” means era instead of a 24-hour period, Moses was “there with the Lord” for a VERY long time.

3) If a day means more than 24-hour period, then how are we to interpret the following verses, as well as scores of others. “Six days shalt thou labor, and do all thy work: But the seventh day is the Sabbath. . . . in it thou shalt not work... For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth… and rested the seventh day” (Exodus 20:9-11).

4) Genesis 1:16 (“And God made two great lights: The greater light to rule the day and the lesser light to rule the night”) states the sun rules the day and the moon rules the night. This obviously is referring to time as we know it, time with days that are 24 hours long with daylight ruling half of each.

5) Adam was made on the sixth day (Genesis 1:26-31) which was supposedly thousand of years long. This was followed by the 7th day which was also thousands of years long. Following the 7th day, Adam fell into sin and was expelled from the Garden. This would mean Adam lived thousands of years, which is false, since he died at age 930 (Genesis 5:5).

6) Genesis 1:5 surely spoke of literal day and literal night, and the inference from the statement, “And the evening and the morning were the first day,” is that it was a literal day of evening and morning, 24-hours. There is no Biblical evidence that the days of this chapter were longer periods.

7) If we do try to buy into what the Jehovah’s quote as “a day can be a thousand years” even this isn’t sufficient enough time. For the earth is at least 4.6 billion. The biblical passages concerning time should’ve read that days can be like MILLIONS of years. Obviously, their claim falls apart under mathematic speculation.

"Does Science Contradict the Genesis Account?"

MANY people claim that science disproves the Bible’s account of creation. But the real contradiction is between science and, not the Bible, but the opinions of so-called Christian Fundamentalists. Some of these groups falsely assert that according to the Bible, all physical creation was produced in six 24-hour days some 10,000 years ago.

The Bible, however, does not support such a conclusion. If it did, then many scientific discoveries over the past hundred years would indeed discredit the Bible. A careful study of the Bible text reveals no conflict with established scientific facts. For that reason, Jehovah’s Witnesses disagree with “Christian” Fundamentalists and many creationists. The following shows what the Bible really teaches.
When Was “the Beginning”?

The Genesis account opens with the simple, powerful statement: “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” (Genesis 1:1) Bible scholars agree that this verse describes an action separate from the creative days recounted from verse 3 onward. The implication is profound. According to the Bible’s opening statement, the universe, including our planet Earth, was in existence for an indefinite time before the creative days began.

Geologists estimate that the earth is approximately 4 billion years old, and astronomers calculate that the universe may be as much as 15 billion years old. Do these findings—or their potential future refinements—contradict Genesis 1:1? No. The Bible does not specify the actual age of “the heavens and the earth.” Science does not disprove the Biblical text.
How Long Were the Creative Days?

What about the length of the creative days? Were they literally 24 hours long? Some claim that because Moses—the writer of Genesis—later referred to the day that followed the six creative days as a model for the weekly Sabbath, each of the creative days must be literally 24 hours long. (Exodus 20:11) Does the wording of Genesis support this conclusion?

No, it does not. The fact is that the Hebrew word translated “day” can mean various lengths of time, not just a 24-hour period. For example, when summarizing God’s creative work, Moses refers to all six creative days as one day. (Genesis 2:4) In addition, on the first creative day, “God began calling the light Day, but the darkness he called Night.” (Genesis 1:5) Here, only a portion of a 24-hour period is defined by the term “day.” Certainly, there is no basis in Scripture for arbitrarily stating that each creative day was 24 hours long.

How long, then, were the creative days? The wording of Genesis chapters 1 and 2 indicates that considerable lengths of time were involved.
Creations Appear Gradually

Moses wrote his account in Hebrew, and he wrote it from the perspective of a person standing on the surface of the earth. These two facts, combined with the knowledge that the universe existed before the beginning of the creative periods, or “days,” help to defuse much of the controversy surrounding the creation account. How so?

A careful consideration of the Genesis account reveals that events starting during one “day” continued into one or more of the following days. For example, before the first creative “day” started, light from the already existing sun was somehow prevented from reaching the earth’s surface, possibly by thick clouds. (Job 38:9) During the first “day,” this barrier began to clear, allowing diffused light to penetrate the atmosphere.*

On the second “day,” the atmosphere evidently continued to clear, creating a space between the thick clouds above and the ocean below. On the fourth “day,” the atmosphere had gradually cleared to such an extent that the sun and the moon were made to appear “in the expanse of the heavens.” (Genesis 1:14-16) In other words, from the perspective of a person on earth, the sun and moon began to be discernible. These events happened gradually.

The Genesis account also relates that as the atmosphere continued to clear, flying creatures—including insects and membrane-winged creatures—started to appear on the fifth “day.” However, the Bible indicates that during the sixth “day,” God was still in the process of “forming from the ground every wild beast of the field and every flying creature of the heavens.”—Genesis 2:19.

Clearly, the Bible’s language makes room for the possibility of some major events during each “day,” or creative period, to have occurred gradually rather than instantly, perhaps some of them even lasting into the following creative “days.”
According to Their Kinds

Does this progressive appearance of plants and animals imply that God used evolution to produce the vast diversity of living things? No. The record clearly states that God created all the basic “kinds” of plant and animal life. (Genesis 1:11, 12, 20-25) Were these original “kinds” of plants and animals programmed with the ability to adapt to changing environmental conditions? What defines the boundary of a “kind”? The Bible does not say. However, it does state that living creatures “swarmed forth according to their kinds.” (Genesis 1:21) This statement implies that there is a limit to the amount of variation that can occur within a “kind.” Both the fossil record and modern research support the idea that the fundamental categories of plants and animals have changed little over vast periods of time.

Contrary to the claims of some Fundamentalists, Genesis does not teach that the universe, including the earth and all living things on it, was created in a short period of time in the relatively recent past. Rather, the description in Genesis of the creation of the universe and the appearance of life on earth harmonizes with many recent scientific discoveries.

Because of their philosophical beliefs, many scientists reject the Bible’s declaration that God created all things. Interestingly, however, in the ancient Bible book of Genesis, Moses wrote that the universe had a beginning and that life appeared in stages, progressively, over periods of time. How could Moses gain access to such scientifically accurate information some 3,500 years ago? There is one logical explanation. The One with the power and wisdom to create the heavens and the earth could certainly give Moses such advanced knowledge. This gives weight to the Bible’s claim that it is “inspired of God.”—2 Timothy 3:16.

* In the description of what happened on the first “day,” the Hebrew word used for light is ’ohr, light in a general sense; but concerning the fourth “day,” the word used is ma·’ohr´, which refers to the source of light.

This is a pretty cool discovery for science. I hate that a religous debate is getting in the way of how important this could be for science and natural history. That being said, I do know christians who believe dinosaur fossils were burried by God and the Earth is only 6000 years old. Personally I go with science on this one. Haha!

but in all seriousness, beyond the religious aspect that this holds. And for anyway you want to personally believe/interpret the bible...

Scientifically, if this dino was strong, with more muscle and overall mass... What is this to conclude about other dino's?

What about other animals at this time? We could learn something about their ligament strength, to help in reconstruction of our own? Being able to withhold more strength and be less prone to tearing? There are tons of scientific and medical applications with this single finding alone.

Dont forget about the mammoth with hair found not too long ago in Eastern Washington.

I took the bait...I never should have posted that because:

1 - I am repeating myself.

2 - Going only by what you have written so far, I can say with no doubts that I, a self-proclaimed proud athiest, have read and understood more of the bible than you. It amazes me how little those who believe in the bible know about it.

3 - Most importantly, I am wasting my time.

You are free to believe what you want, as am I. Lets get back the topic and leave all of this for the evo. vs. creation thread. Otherwise, Im through talking about this subject in this thread.

this is a very cool find and there is no reason to make this into a religious debate .. this discovery has nothing to do with god

i think its awesome that they found existing proteins that they where able to extract.. now onto pulling some dna out of it .. thats when the fun begins

@heathenbrewing First off, Its not your place to make those assumptions. I don't know you, and you clearly do not know me.

Why are you getting mad anyway, because you know I'm right?

Discussion closed before it gets out of hand please.

Im not agaist anyones beliefs, but i will say this......I used to believe in jesus and stuff like that for a while....well up until I got engaged...I thought I was going to have to do my sacraments to give my fiance the full mass Catholic wedding that she wants...so I began to research. i figured if i am to be married in a Catholic church I should read up on it. I was baptized Catholic but my parents never took me to church after that and i never go now....as I dug further and further through my research..I came up with empty answers that basically lead me away from it and now I am at a cross roads where Im not really sure if I believe anymore.....have I lost my faith..some may say...or have I found the truth i was looking for.....? Kinda wierd, my fiance is not hardcore Catholic and I never will be but we have an understanding....she can go to heaven and if im wrong.......well sh*t, who cares If im wrong...she wont be able to tell me "I told you" cause Ill be in hell!

Now back to the Dinos.....
