Default Navy.. what do you think about submarine jobs ?

So yesterday the guy called and asked me if I want to be on a sub. How many sailors usually on a sub and what kind of meal do they serve ? Any general information would be helpful. Thanks.

Heh, I'm going to guess cramped quarters, no sunlight or wind for weeks at a time, no escape if things go horribly wrong, and lots of "being quiet".

Talk to Trung (squalllheart) - he was a nuke on a carrier.

I was in the Navy and was enlisted into submarines. I was a Machinst Mate. The subs usually have about 100 sailors on them but they canc also have more or less than that. The meals are pretty what you can get anywhere. They have 4 different meals periods for the guys up late. They serve burgers, chicken, salad, veggies, breakfast you can get pancakes or waffles, eggs & bacon. Its pretty cramped in there, I am 5'11'' and my head would hit the pipes hanging down.

100 people come down..
50 couples come up.

number of people stationed on the sub is also defined by what class it is. obviously bigger subs are going to be able to hold a larger crew.

I have a story:

In the town where I was born,
Lived a man who sailed to sea,
And he told us of his life,
In the land of submarines,

So we sailed up to the sun,
Till we found a sea of green,
And we lived beneath the waves,
In our yellow submarine,

We all live in a yellow submarine,
Yellow submarine, yellow submarine,
We all live in a yellow submarine,
Yellow submarine, yellow submarine,

And our friends are all aboard,
Many more of them live next door,
And the band begins to play.

As we live a life of ease (a life ease)
Every one of us (everyone of us) has all we need (has all we need)
Sky of blue (sky of blue) and sea of green (sea of green)
In our yellow (in our yellow) submarine (submarine. ha ha)

We all live in a yellow submarine,
Yellow submarine, yellow submarine,
We all live in a yellow submarine,
Yellow submarine, yellow submarine.

"not much going on down there"
Yeah you keep thinking that. lol

But I have friends who are on al different types and it just depends how your crew is. Most people would prefer to be on the attack subs then boomers...

what rate you looking to being?

that'll be a good determination of how crappy life is gonna be on the boat.

First off Im not grilling you but I really hope you dont have that attitude when you go in. If you really dont like your rate on the sub then after 2 years change your rate.
