If you do email, internet, music and want it all CHEAP...use linux.

 

Problem with Linux is that not all printers, scanners, digital cameras, ect. have drivers for it. I'm going to load Linux onto my computer after I buy a new one just so my current one can die in peace without Windows.

also u gotta think about quality. apple have been around forever. until about a yr ago i still had an apple that had green screens and huge floppys that worked. not that i used it much but still. they last forever.
i have a macbook now and my previous toshiba satellite's keyboard skiped keys when typing.

 

(Just to keep this straight, I am a Mac person, so my first and obvious choice would be a Mac. I recognize, though, that folks have reasons for running other OSs, and that it isn't the machines themselves, but their software that can make the biggest difference. The cost difference leans slightly toward the non-Mac in some cases, but not as strongly as it seems at first glance when all the variables are accounted for.)

I have friends with Tohibas that are still running Windows 95 and they work perfectly fine. Toshiba is know for its laptops' quality.

apple.com is the best place for macs... unless theres one i dont know of lol. Good luck on your choice !!!

 

If you want a desktop, get an iMac. 1500 will get you a built in 20 inch lcd (2k for a 24") Plus, with the intel chip, you can easily boot Windows using either parallels or bootcamp. If you're also a gamer, get the 256MB graphics upgrade and throw windows on via bootcamp. Boom - best of both worlds right there.
BTW: bootcamp is beta software from Apple, it's free.

It depends on what you're doing with your computer. If you you graphic works or video editing, then Mac is recommended by most people. Anything else, game, programming, browse the net, doing school works, etc, go with PC. In my personal experience, I work with PC all the time. I use to do graphic as a freelance job, PC works out just fine with me, infact better. I build my own PC with top of the line products, so when it comes to rendering, loading, and what not, my PC work so much faster than the Mac that costs like 2G. I hate Mac because it is so simple and you don't have too much control. If you want total control of your computer, go with PC. Good luck.

 

Toshiba may be known for quality laptops, but Windows is also known for security patches ontop of security patches, and big blue screens of death.

The Mac comes with 99% of all the software 80% of the population will ever use. It also is already running the next gen OS, and I believe it's already been upgraded once. The extra $500 the Mac costs is money well spent in my book.

The only legitimate reason to go PC over Mac is gaming. That's it. I gave up on PC gaming back in college, it just got too expensive. Every game I wanted also came with a minimum of $300 in necessary upgrades in order to play it. Prolly spent a grand total of about $4000 on that *&^% thing!

I dj and do a incy tiny bit of producing nothng to profesional more on the Dj side of things.
I know that a pc would do just fine but I was thinking about every time now that my Homeboys laptop (dell) has had some issues..........and a few desktops that I have owned.

The other task for me would be Surfing the Net.
Is surfing the net that much more different on the Mac then the pc?

 

nope just bout the same... actually mines faster then hubbys and he has an hp lol ohh and if u do anything with music macs come with a thing called garage band... its so you can make your own music on the computer

 

You'd be paying $500 for nothing because the build quality is more or less the same for Mac and Toshiba and you can dual boot on BOTH systems. I also agree with the simplicity statement above. I take advantage of a lot of my computer's capabilities which involve some things that require more control of the computer. As for the internet thing, it would be exactly the same because internet has nothing to do with hardware (besides your modem or router). If I were to buy a new computer now it would be a top range Windows Vista desktop (therefore saving $500+) onto which I would load OSX for use of everyday things like internet and email. For more complex things and gaming I'd simply switch over to Windows.
