Default Need some computer savvy people to chime in

I have been trying to link two computers on one internet connection for 3 days.

I got it done about a year ago by luck, but then I took it apart because I had no need for two pc's. Now I need two again and for some reason I can't get the guest computer to see an available internet connection.

I'm using windows Vista on the main pc, and XP on the other one, with *** as a cable provider & i'm using a netgear router. Has a main port and 4 other ports.

If someone can give me the tips on how to get this to work i'd really appreciate it, I think i'm balding because of this experience

You should just be able to plug the uplink from the cable modem into the uplink port on the router. Connect each PC to a different port on the router and make sure the PCs are set for DHCP. It should take care of itself.

^ That should take care of it.

Provided you don't have your PCs set for a static IP, it should just work. Reset the modem and login to your router to verify that you have an IP.

Routers are often @ 192.168.1.1
Unless you changed it, the login should be admin and the password is also admin (this is the case on most of the routers I've dealt with)

thanks for the plug lol, if you have issues, let me know. Also if you have a cable internet connection, there can be issues sometimes. If it works when one is connected directly to the modem but not when you connect the same to the router, then you need to turn off the modem and router wait a few minutes, and power them back on.
