Default Nintendo DS Lite - Worth it?

So I broke my iPod the other month and I've been too lazy to
get myself a new one. Some people think I'm crazy that I can go
to college without an iPod, but whatever (:

Anyways.

I was looking into other forms of technology that could keep me entertained
during my 3-4hr lectures and in between breaks. I saw a little kid at the mall
playing with a Nintendo DS and I thought to myself that maybe I should invest
in one.

Do any of you have one?

If so, how is it?

Worth it?

On a scale from 1-10, what fun factor score would you give the thing?

Also, as I been Googling information through out the morning, some people
say it's possible to play MP3's on it but some don't. If anyone could clarify
this, that would be greatly appreciated. I really do wish it can so I can have
a 2-in-1 entertainment system while sitting through Psychology lectures.

well I both my fiancee (sp?) one last year and she loves it. I would rate it at a 8.

but if playing mp3's is a worry why not the PSP? u can even get a memory car load it up with music and put videos in there.

Get the PSP, it's been great to me. I currently have the entire third season of entourage in 1 gig mem stick along with a few pics and songs. Plus, I get to play NBA07 as well, what device can be better than that.

I was actually looking at the PSP but the variety of games it offers
aren't what I'd like to play during lectures. Using the stylus to bash in
moles while playing whack-a-mole is more like me.

Mini-games and puzzles and what not, to me, seem like the perfect
things to play during those times where I don't feel like taking notes.
I aswell like the exterior details. I think it looks clean, simple, and neat.

Well, the PSP has emulators that can get you many classics, even Nintendo classics, plus if your school has WiFi (which most schools do) you can surf the web with the PSP internal WiFi card. I don't know man, but like I said, the PSP has been my favorite gadget. Plus liek I said, you can download any of your favorite TV shows/movies into the PSP. If you have Tivo you can watch your favorite show you missed formt he night before. If you have sling box, you can watch live tv from your PSP.

^^^ I agree with the game selection...DS has way more and better ones. I have the PSP and I hardly use it I just use it on long trip or things like that. I have a 1GB memory card and I have music and I had a movie on it

but if games is what ur looking at I would get the DS. If you want music along with it (selective) games I would go the PSP route

My girl sinks like 10 bucks into the video system at the bar everytime we go, I think I should consider one of these.

Rechargeble battery right?

I bought a DS when it first came out and loved it since then. When the Lite came out, I traded my original in for one. I love it even more. I have been holding off until the new Pokemon(yeah I know I'm a nerd) comes out in April by replaying the Castlevania games on it. I give it an 11.

I have one. It's worth picking up for New Super Mario alone. Also, there's this new one called Hotel Dusk, it's basically a playable pulp mystery. Pretty fun stuff.

I know you can also get a thing that will allow you to store music and turn it into an mp3 player or something like that, but if you're going to go that route, it'd probably be cheaper to get the DS and an iPod Nano.

Well there you have it, for gameplay get the DS, for Videos, pics, internet & MP3 get the PSP. Plus, the way you speak of the DS seems like you've already made up your mind, go with the DS, peace.

DONT get a PSP.....

I had one and they are not any good. The screen is so small for the games and they just look bad. Games that where made for Playstation should be played on a bigger screen.

Now, there is a reason why nintendo has been making hand held systems for such a long time......THEY DO IT RIGHT

DS all the way......Also, I just got one for the same reason as you(college has so much down time)

Fairlady, to say they aren't any good is kind of unfair. They do have the DS outnumbered in every department except the Gaming section. I know that that's where it counts, but sony said it from the beginning that they wanted more of an entertainment device and not a gaming device. So yeah, if you're buying a PSP to only play games then you're wasting your money, but if you want something that can play music, pics, video, internet, etc get the PSP. DS is specifically a gaming device and wins in that department hands down.

You can also look into a pocket pc, you can get a nice one for like less than $200 now. There's lots of mini-games and puzzles out for them and they can emulate a lot of things including PS1. Videos, internet, mp3s, internet radio, organizer, etc etc.

What I think is funny is how Sony charges $29.95 for the movies on UMD. I can pay half that and get them on DvD..........
