also some guy on cnn said that we dont think they have the tech. to actually get a missle here to the u.s. but like the last guy said we do have bases in korea. and im not disagrein with ya on them being a threat, i def think we should take some action (well not jus us but the u.n.) what im sayin is that i dont think we should pull out of iraq jus because they might not pose a threat now. if we let them continue on by themselves now, i think it would be a big problem in the future. btw- that guy we killed zaqawi (sp) he had the personal phone numbers of some of the newly implamented senior iraq govt. officials in his cell. so the govt. we're helping them set up is still in communications with terrorist leaders! yea...they're deff not ready for us to pull out

Today the Washington Times posted a UPI story with the following headline:
The article continues: “The U.S. missile defense system was tested this week with North Korea’s launch of seven missiles, and performed as it should, Pentagon sources said.”
A reader might think the U.S. has an operational missile defense system capable of shooting down long-range missiles. Of course, it doesn’t. So what part of the missile system was “tested and passed”?
The U.S. Northern Command said in a statement that all seven missiles were detected and tracked “immediately” after launch Tuesday and Wednesday.
“While Ground-based Midcourse Defense System interceptors at Fort Greely, Alaska, and Vandenberg Air Force Base, Calif., were operational during the flight, top officials from the command were able to determine quickly that the launch posed no threat to the United States or its territories,” the statement said.
The purpose of a missile defense system isn’t just to track missiles, it’s to intercept and destroy them. The Ground-based Midcourse Defense (GMD) system has gone through testing to see if it can do so, but it has failed consistently.
In fact, the system “hasn’t successfully intercepted a missile since October of 2002. … And the last two times it tried to hit an oncoming missile, the interceptor didn’t even leave the ground.”

“A little-noticed study by the Government Accountability Office issued in March found that program officials were so concerned with potential flaws in the first nine interceptors now in operation that they considered taking them out of their silos and returning them to their manufacturer for ‘disassembly and remanufacture.’“
i stand corrected, i found the article i read and it pretty much says the same thing, only a lil more misleading makein me think they sucesfully tested the system earlier this year. still i feel our tech. is far more advanced than that of korea, i dont believe they possess the capobility to reach continetal u.s. shores.... i hope!
*edit!!!*
i knew i had read that we had a succesfull test fire this year!!
"The latest test of the U.S. missile defense program is the seventh time in eight attempts the military has successfully shot down a target with a ship-based interceptor, the Pentagon said" --- from this link--> http://www.cnn.com/2006/US/06/23/navy.ustest/index.html
