I didn't get one yet but chances are I might. Anyway heres whats goin on. My school has some serious construction goin on in order to make more parking spots. In order to make more parking spots they've shut down and are now renovating areas where students would park before hand. Now that parking space is very limited. I'm talking like maybe 10 spots for 50+ cars, many people are parking in areas that have "No parking" signs. Cops aren't really cracking down on it, mainly because they understand whats goin on and don't mind, But every now and then you'll hear about someone getting a parking ticket. No big deal really, We park there, we get the ticket, pay, and life goes on. But heres my question:
I park right next to a No Standing sign. BUT theres a dirt patch right there that everyone pulls on top of. So technically speaking, me along with those who park in that area are not on the street. Technically we're parking on top school property. I understand that technically the school can have our cars removed, but can I argue that the No Standing sign doesn't apply to me since I'm not parking on the street in court? Think it'd work?
Here's what I'm talking about:

since they've been redoing the parking spot. my old parking location, which is a legal spot, happens to be the place that they're redoing. soooooo 2-3 weeks now maybe? however people have been parking there for a long time. Reason I bring this up is because my friend said he got a parking ticket in that exact spot I'm using now earlier in the year.
More pics of the Honda and it's coffee can.
sorry, couldn't resist.
Technically speaking, you aren't parked in the No Parking zone. The zone starts at that sign and points away from your car to the curb. You are however in the No Standing zone, but you aren't standing. You're parked. Will you get a ticket? Probably, is it a big deal? Not really.

The honda infront of me is some ricer POS. Guys got like 5 guages in his A-Piller, no intercooler, no sign of engine mods or anything. Guys not even dropped.
I'm not spending an extra 2 hours at school waiting for the bus, I have free periods on which I can leave on and I plan on using them.
I'd love to park somewhere else, I really would, but like I said there are only about 10 legal spots available and Its really hard to land those spots. What ever, if I get a ticket I'll just pay it and call it a day
Anyway. I asked my manager at work today whos about to go into law school and this is what he said. He said that if I get a parking ticket, and get the school to say that that piece of land is theirs, ticket gets thrown out, however if the school calls the cops, they can give me a ticket if they want. If that piece of land is in fact not part of the school, I'm screwed.
Like i said, I'm not the first one to park there, people park there all the time, even when the other spots are available. The cops usually don't care, I'm just curious if this would be a valid argument in court.

whats behind the fence is school's property, eventhough they are in charge of whats going on in front of the school. but technically its not theirs, its the city's. but if your friend got a ticket, and you still want to park there, better hope that jerk cop who gave ur friend the ticket wont come and give you a ticket. your friend's ticket should be a warning to everyone. but of course, you should always ask the school but most likely when u ask them, they'll say " no parking means no parking, no standing means no standing OR parking" personally i have never seen the "No Standing" sign before.... so i'd just rip it off =P
