Default Post up your custom computer!

i couldn't find another thread like this so i figure i'll start one. i'm sure i'm not the only one who builds their own computer....its a fun hobby and way cheaper than buying an overpriced pos from Dell Gateway or what have you...

my current rig was built in august of last year so its not all up to date (hardware wise) but it plays Crysis with no lag so to me thats pretty much la creme de la creme. my best 3DMark06 score is 12135 with just the GPU overclocked.

Intel Core 2 Duo E6850 Conroe 3.0GHz CPU
Corsair XMS2 4GB (4 x 1GB) RAM
Western Digital Caviar 160GB 7200 RPM HDD
EVGA GeForce 8800GTX Superclocked 768MB GPU (OC'd to 650core clock, 1035mem clock, 1530 shader clock)
EVGA LGA 775 NVIDIA nForce 680i SLI ATX Intel Motherboard
Rosewill 750W Power Supply
Thermaltake Bach VX Case
LG DVD Burner
Thermalright HR-03 Plus VGA Cooler
Thermaltake V1 CPU Cooler

couple pics:

anyone else into this stuff?

yeah its a monster, so is the GPU cooler. but my temps remain rediculously low even under full load. the gigantic fan on the GPU spins at 4800rpm, sounds like a hairdrier but it dropped my temps from high 87*~ to sub 60* lol. i have a friend who has 4 of them mounted to the side of his server. good god its LOUD

well the nvidia 8XXX series were released with really ____ty cooling, so it was pretty common for them to be running mid 80* at all times. i didnt want my card crapping out early so i put on that cooler and reduced temps by 20-25*. i don't push my components that much to consider water cooling, and for a single video card it wouldnt be worth it. i'm used to the loudness. if i was running dual GPU's, especially the newest 9800 GX2 cards, i'd consider water cooling since those cards are rediculous. but i've heard the 9XXX series have much better cooling power.

i'll probably be building a new system this christmas, they have good sales around that time. those 9800GX2 cards are sooo tempting but the 10XXX series will be out by x-mas so i'm patiently waiting.

No pics but here are the specs of my current build:

AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 6400+ @ 3.2GHz
MSI K9A2 Platinum Motherboard (supports 4 video cards and AM2+ CPU's)
2x2GB Sticks of ADATA DDR2 800 RAM
Seagate Barracuda 250GB SATA Hard Drive
CoolerMaster 350w PSU
Diamond Radeon HD3870 Video card (lookin to buy another)

Its pretty fast and I love it a lot but Im definitely going to mod it some more. Going to replace the processor with a Phenom Quad Core in the future. Need to upgrade my PSU though! Havent run any 3dmark apps. in a while but the Vista Experience (LOL) rating is 5.9's on all but the CPU which it ranks as 5.5. 5.9 is the highest rating... So yeah, once I get my quad I should be all 5.9's. Im most excited to add another video card and see how it does.

Cool beans Sap! Never got into watercooling. Not sure if I'll be overclocking this setup. It runs plenty fast for me at the moment

you know you're seriously into this hobby when your temps get into the negatives, lol. i read about that vapochill awhile ago, that is nuts!

i'm finally gonna overclock the CPU this weekend (had bad experience with the last computer), i'd like to hit 3.5Ghz without too much trouble.

Vapochill is actually not even watercooling but using a Mini Refrdigerator compressor to send the coolness to the CPU, it gets so cold that condensation forms at the cpu so you have to use a heater core below the cpu pins to send heat to balance out the condensation. It was a cool project for sure! :D

I don't have pics of my new system yet but here's my build. I'm planning on overclocking and eventually migrating over to watercooling once I get the free time.

Intel QX9650 (currently at stock with stock cooling)
ASUS P5E3 Premium mobo
4GB (2x2GB) OCZ Platinum 1333 MHz DDR3 (currently at stock)
GeForce 8800 GTS 512 (G92) (currently at stock with stock cooling)
2x Seagate 500GB 32MB SATA2 (in raid0 array)
1x Liteon 20x DVD burner
1x Samsung 20x DVD burner
Corsair 750W PSU
Antec 900 case (one extra case fan on door)
19" LCD (primary)
15" LCD (secondary)
sound connected to 7.1 stereo system
XP Home

My old system is thus. I'm using it as a media server that is connected to 5.1 surround sound and a 40" HDTV (1080).
Pentium D (830) (Watercooled)
4 GB (4x1GB) OCZ/Mushkin 667MHz DDR2
Intel PVSLKR mobo
GeForce 7600 GT XXX (Watercooled)
1x 320GB Maxtor SATA2
1x 300GB Seagate SATA2
1x 160GB Seagate IDE
Watercooling is swiftech (GPU block, CPU block, 120 mm radiator, 5.25" bay reservoir)
600W Ultra PSU
Aerocool case
Dualbooting XP Home and Ubuntu 8.04 64bit
