Default Saw a smart car today

Alright....I've read the reviews about the smart car about how great it is at parking yadda yadda yadda and today I finally got to see onw. Let me just say this thing is TINY. I mean Tiny is an understatement. It's just plain to small. I got the owner to let me check out the inside and stuff and it was just not my cup of tea. However I thought the exterior looked good.

Discuss.

I like 'em. I think they look really cool. I feel that my xA is a much better car though. The xA gets pretty close to the same gas milage and it does it with a ton more room, utility, and safety. You really can't even look at a Smart as a car. It's more like a weather-proof motorcycle.

I never saw any on the road until last weekend. I saw 3, a blue, red, and yellow. The yellow was just wrong...but the blue/red looked good. I sat in them at the NY Auto Show, and being 6'4, I was shocked at how well I fit. If I was in the market for a daily driver and a toy, I'd consider the smart for the DD. Theres a dealer near me, me and a friend want to go test drive one lol.

i like them, people have this misconception about it being unsafe because its small, but if you look at the design and engineering in them they're one of they safest vehicles as they are built similarly to a tank.

Also another random neat thing is you can order additional coloured panels from the dealer and in about a half hour if your good you can change the colour of your car, which works well if you use it as a company car and don't want to have vinyls all over it when your just driving around town not on business

but thats just my two sense.

did you guys just get them in the states? we've had them in canada for years now

I loved mine when I had it. Although it looks small from the outside, it is surprisingly roomy on the inside. It got great gas mileage (~45 mpg) and it never took more than $30 to fill it (with premium, mind you).

Only reason I got rid of it was because my ex and I broke up and we had purchased it jointly. I'd still be driving it around if circumstances were different!

How about this as a smart car. I'd get one of these in a heart beat if we get a dealership here in Houston.

Too bad the crumple zone is also where you put your legs.

I saw one at Sams Club LOL it was the most strangest thing I had ever seen it did not fill the parking spot completely and it looks like a toy matchbox car. Looked like it did not have an engine.

And yet it's all that 80% of us would need most of the time. If I didn't already have a really small car (xA) I'd probably get one.

I saw one in our mall on display and one drove by my place yesterday. They are cute but I would never own one.

Sure the SmartCar has some kind of ultra rigid frame that's supposed to keep you safe, but that has it's drawbacks. With a normal car you're going to get more crumple zone to absorb the shock. Instead with this ultra compact form with it's super rigid frame all the energy is not going to have a chance to dissipate anywhere except directly into your body.

Not to mention their MPG's is overrated, it's insanely over priced, and their are better small cars available.

I cant sy 10 years, but I have been seeing them for the past 5 anyway.

I have 1 on my block and 6 in the small community I live in.

Overall, I like 'em, but as mentioned, they are over priced. I wounldnt consider buying it, but only because he next vechicle I purchase will NOT have an internal combustion engine.

They are pretty neat little cars and remarkibly safe considering how tiny they are. My dealership will be getting them soon to sell and service. For the price though I dont think its worth it, you can get a Yaris that will get better gas mileage and is bigger for just about the same price.
