Default Scionlife scammer?

I dont trust many people, this honestly seems like a scam of some sort to me. The following is an odd pm I got on this website. Correct me if I'm wrong....if it is legit, then I apologise. The vin part was the kicker though.

Subject: Scrapbook
Hello!
Before I get to my question, let me introduce myself. My name is Carey and I'm a Scion enthusiast from the East Coast in Maryland. We have a local dealer that is running a contest for the local DC metro Scion owners and has tasked us with a bit of a scavenger hunt. We are supposed to find each type of model Scion xA, xB & tC in each color and in both Transmissions and display them in a Scrapbook. To prove that we found each car we are supposed to have at least 3 pictures, one that shows the exterior color, transmission (Cabin shot) and VIN plate from inside the door for verification. The dealer has stated that they will check the VIN numbers to verify that it's the true color and correct transmission just in case people try and Photoshop the VIN's.

So that brings me to my question, I would like to use your car in my Scrapbook! Right now I'm in the process of coming up with a theme to display all of the pictures. If you would not mind I would like to get three pictures from you displaying the exterior color of the car, along with the inside cabin and the VIN number tag from the inside of the door. The VIN numbers must been eligible for me to get credit for your model so please hold still for that picture! =) If you would like also include any mods you have done and I'll try and work those details into your page of the Scrapbook.

If at any time you would like to verify this contest or have any questions please email or IM me about the pictures or any of the details I requested. I will also be happy to email you the event details from James at Miller Scion to help answer any questions and or hesitations you may have about this PM.

Thanks ahead of time!

There seem to be a bunch of people from that neck of the woods working on the same contest. To me it sounds flaky, but that's just me, I suppose. (They aren't getting Vanilla's VIN from me...)

DON'T DO IT.
Yeah, they could grab VINs from anyone's dash, but why make it easy for someone to do something illegal or that causes YOU trouble?

Skip it.

What can realistically be done with a VIN?

Dunno - why don't you post yours and see?
In this day and age, I think crooks are pretty good at using your data for bad things - why risk it?
Same reason why people blank-out their license plates online, or use pseudonyms online.

This is not a scam. I am in the same contest, FYI your vin is out in the public all day long if someone really wanted information they can just look at ur windshield and take it.

For $30 you can pretty much run an internet search that returns everything except banking and credit cards...

Thank you Joe.

Dakin n bustanaunerism you are more than welcome not to help me

I could easily afford a paid off new beamer if I wanted to, and they are a dealership so who would want your scions?

I'm doing this because I like the excitement and it's a project that takes my mind off my problems
