I snapped a photo of one of our customers at my dealership. He was keeping an eye on my mechanic neighbor, who was working on his Nissan Quest. He didn't trust us for nothing...

Pretty sure he's had a bad experience from somebody else before. Can't blame him. I love to snoop in any way I can, especially when it's MY car that's "under the knife," so to speak.

 

The funny thing is that he has NO business there! That's the employee cafeteria he entered to watch his Quest being worked on. The customer waiting area is in the showroom!

maybe he just gets off watching men at work get busy on his car, getting all sweaty and greasy.

i do the same thing everytime i bring my car in to mechanics..... i totally understand where he is coming from

 

What was the mechanic doing? That might explain why he was spying. Maybe he was curious and wanted to learn something.

 

I know I'd always like to watch my car get worked on if it were possible. For 2 reasons...I worry that mechanics might get lazy and not take as good care as they should, and 2nd because maybe I'll learn something. Maybe they were working on something he was thinking about doing himself , but then decided against?

Like, I'd love to watch someone replace my springs/ shocks..because I wonder if I could do it myself (I really want to). If I watched someone do it..then I might feel more confident about doing it myself in the future.

I even like to see the guys balance my tires on the machine..not because they're going to do it wrong (how would I know anyway), but because its MY CAR they're working on..like performing surgery on you kid or something...theres nothing you can do yourself, but you just want to be there.

yeah cant really blame the guy, if you've had a bad experience before you most likely want to do this.. that's a funny pic though haha.. or me i always want to watch a car being fixed, i dont have a very good background on that stuff, but i wanna know how things go

 

Heh, I've had people be all like:

"dude, can i sit in the car while you're workin on it?!"

"Can i just stand in the garage next to it?"

and the worst:
"Since its in here can i borrow your tools cuz i want to fix something else real quick?!"

I understand where watching your car get worked on is cool, I do it myself too, but you do not ask to borrow the mechanic's tools. nuh uh.

 

haha that's a strict no no though especially in a dealership or a bid shop, against regulations... that's why i like to have my car worked on smaller shops or some garages coz theyre cool over there

 

He had an exhaust rattle that a previous mechanic couldn't fix. My neighbor, who's been with Nissan almost 33 years, fixed it right the 1st time! I learn ALOT from this "old dog"...

It sucks when customers pretty much distrust you and anxiously wait for you to f*k up... See at my work the waiting area has a window into the shop so they can watch pretty much everything. With the drain plug already loose I walk back over to a car Im working on with my filter wrench pliers to get the filter loose and this black old man comes running out pretty much yelling at me, telling me that I better not use those to take the drain plug off... Im like wtf and said that the drain plug was already loose... He said he thought I was going to strip the hell out of it. Idiot! Mainly because I noticed him watching me while I loosened it and when he came out I already had the filter wrench wrapped around the filter which was nowhere near the plug... Then, after I had backed the car out he comes to the back looking ____ed off and claims I didnt put enough oil in the car because the oil didnt go past the hash marks! I was pretty upset and kind of had a tone with him. Then he tells me he knows about cars too and I just walked away... I truly respect why we have that window but some customers just suck ___!

Yeah. No offense, but I don't trust dealerships. The ones ive been to are shady as hell and my dad used to be a toyota mechanic. They used to tell him "There's no reason why you can't find at least 3hrs worth of work on this car"

 

I would do the same thing if I ever went to a mechanic.
